I’m having an issue with the show Bob’s Burgers, which has 10 seasons and a ton of episodes. I normally wouldn’t make a topic, but I really don’t want to go and manually fix all these and most of all, I want to know why this happened.
I previously had Bob’s Burgers in my Plex library and all episodes were correctly identified with proper metadata downloaded. All of my episodes follow the correct naming format – a sample folder would be D:/Video/Animated TV/Bob’s Burgers/Season 01/01 Human Flesh.mkv – and worked fine before I needed to move them to a new drive. I …
-Moved the files to a new non-library folder
-Scanned, the show was removed
-Moved the files to a new library folder
-Scanned, the show was identified and all 10 seasons added
-Unfortunately, about half of the 100+ episodes are only identified in Plex via their date now. I have checked and the filenames are still the same. They scanned properly the first time.
I want to know if Plex wrote bad metadata on these files or if I’m supposed to do something else. Upon realizing this issue I tried removing them again, cleaning bundles, emptying trash and then scanning them in, but the result is the same: all of the episodes that were identified by their date were once again identified by their date. Notably, if I change the filenames manually and then refresh metadata, it does NOT pull in episode descriptions and that is a dealbreaker for me.
Sorry but i have over 40 TB of media named and separated by genre or type, show, and season. And all of it but this one show works. My TV and movies are also separated. This is not helpful information, because it’s clear Plex is not working as designed.
I want to know specifics, not a support article I’ve obviously already looked at. My folder structure is adequate, i spend hours manually making sure my files are sorted and indexed properly. This specific show was working perfectly an hour before I made this post, and then after changing the location of the files to another drive (with the same exact structure), it stopped working. I want to know why and how I can fix this.
I’m not trying to be combative, but there has to be a reason why it was working and then stopped and there has to be an easier way to fix this than “rename 40TB of movies and TV shows that were already meticulously sorted and named”
Unfortunately, if you don’t follow the guidelines, there is no guarentee non-standard naming conventions will work with each new release.
There are plenty of applications available to automartically rename your files/folder to a format Plex will recognise 99.9% of the time. No one is suggesting you go through and manually rename 1000s of files.
I did as described. I named Bob’s Burgers in the way described. These are the steps I took:
-Moved the folder out of the library.
-Cleaned bundles, emptied trash, optimized database, restarted PC.
-Renamed all 10 seasons to be “SXXEXX Title” within the same folder structure.
-Moved the folder back into the library
The results are the same. Many episodes are identified only by dates. Now can someone help me?
Unfortunately your logs are not helpful, because you have debug logging on your server disabled. You can leave that activated by default (but don’t activate ‘verbose’ logging!).
Are all your episode files in MKV containers, or are there a lot of mp4/m4v files among them? And if so, are the affected episodes all mp4 files?
How can I get helpful logs, then? Add and remove the files again after I’ve enabled debug logging, or just refresh the metadata on the show?
All of the files in each season are .mkv files from the same source. And if I was unclear, when I say this was working before, I know for certain every single episode was previously scanned in properly because I just finished a series rewatch like a week ago, if this information is helpful.
Can anybody help me with this problem? It seems like my Plex is having other issues picking up recently added episodes for other shows too. I’m seeing bad requests in my logs but I don’t know how to fix it.
Jesus Christ. Looks like all of these issues are stemming from a recent Plex update switching random libraries from English to Dansk. I was able to scan them in correctly after switching the library back to English.
How the heck does this happen? I see people reporting this issue with other updates from a few years ago, even.
