So I have an added movie file and I am not sure how to figure out what it is to fix it.
When I use filter All > Movies > By Title, I get 4183 Movies
When I use filter All > Folders > By Title, I get 4182 Movies
All files are in a single folder AKA “Z: > Movies”, and on Windows Explorer I get a count of 4182 total in this folder so this has to be the correct number. I have no “Collections” movies.
How can I figure this extra movie? I am guessing one movie file got picked for two movies. And going to Duplicates > Movies > By Title is correct, because this shows movies that have two or more files for the same and I only have two in here.
Movies > Scan Library Files and Movies > Manage Library > Refresh All Metadata does not correct this.
Plex will not match one file against multiple movies. It’s more likely you’ve got 1 folder that contains 2 independent video files. This can be actual different movies or a supposed local extra that got misplaced by Plex (e.g. if its name doesn’t follow the expected naming schema).
While it’s relatively simple to find duplicates or accidentally merged files (e.g. using the duplicates filter), finding that kind of gaps is more tricky. Actually I’m not aware of any way to do this from within Plex. Have you considered verifying this on the file system level (e.g. with an app that summarizes the content of a folder, including a count of items in each subfolder)?
I had a what I thought was two parts of a movie in one folder, but Plex was making it two movies which google showed it was. So I corrected it and it matches number now!
