Movie Extras not showing for all films

Hi,

Firstly, apologies if this is a question with a simple answer, I’ve been looking through the boards and can see similar issues, but non of the solutions have worked for me.

I’ve added some movies to my library with their extras set up in sub folders.

Using exactly the same folder structure some movies are showing the associated extras, whilst others aren’t.

I’ve tried doing the Plex dance, but to no avail. I was hoping someone with more experience with Plex may be able to help me resolve this.

Thanks

Running Plex 2.7.10 (Version 1.1.3.2700) on a Synology DS216J.

The reason they aren’t showing is because of how Plex names extras.

Your structure has them named in subdirectories under the movie. while this is logical, it’s not how it was done (classic two sides of a coin problem).

The title is what you want it called. The -something right before the .extension is what flags Plex as to its type

Don’t forget to enable “Local Media Assets” in your Settings - Agents for these to be picked up and displayed after you Update your Library

I’d seen that page and followed the Organised in Subdirectories section as it is easier to read what’s in there. But I’m happy to follow your advice.

I’ve made the changes, so the files are all suffixed with the requisite extra type now and have performed the dance to clear out any remnants of the movie before adding it back in and everything is working as it should do.

Many thanks for your help with this. I’ll keep everything to the one directory from now on.

Personally, I like having an “Extras” subdirectory too and will continue to lobby for its implementation.

While less-than-ideal to setup, I’m glad you’re seeing the desired results

I’ve tried this with the 8 films I have in my library so far (early stages of filling it). Two just aren’t showing, despite now being in the correct format.

Local media assets are selected and the structure is below (From my reading of the link this should be right), but it still won’t show. I’ve tried the ‘dance’ a couple of times to see if there was something just not refreshing right, but no luck. Quite puzzling.

Guinness World Record-behindthescenes.mkv

Music-behindthescenes.mkv

Those names and structure are correct.

Please don’t forget to give Plex permission to read the directory (755) and files (644).

you might need to ‘refresh’ the movie (left side).

If this fails, go to the cog on the upper right while in the movie library and ‘refresh all’

Thanks.

Not sure what you mean by the permissions, but it’s seeing the features, just not the extras, so from what I can tell all permissions are fine.

Have refreshed the library and done a refresh all, two are just refusing to play ball. All the others are working fine.

Interestingly, if I move one of the extras that isn’t showing for one of the films and move it in to the folder of one that is showing them it shows up.

I think you need to take that movie and ‘plex dance’ it.

By this I mean:

  1. move it away from where Plex can see it
  2. update Libraries and let finish
  3. empty the trash
  4. clean the bundles and let finish
  5. move the media back
  6. Update Libraries to bring it all back.

I would also suggest checking your settings for Server - Library and set it to perform a partial scan if changes are detected. This makes it much more sensitive to adding individual items as well as things like extras / featurettes within a movie

Looks like it was one file that was causing issues.

Not sure if it’s to do with the accented letter, but when named “Introducing Léa Seydoux and Monica Bellucci-featurette.mkv” once added to the folder, all extras disappeared. When I removed the accent from Léa and named it “Introducing Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci-featurette.mkv” everything worked as it should do.

Thanks for your help with this ChukPa.

I’m having the same problem with a couple of my movies not displaying the extras in their “Trailers” subfolder even though the rest of my movies (at least all the ones I’ve checked so far) display their extras in their trailers subfolders just fine. Tried the “dance” and other steps noted in ChuckPA’s post above but the trailers still aren’t being displayed for those two particular movies.

Seems weird that it works for so many others but not those two in particular (Air Force One and All the President’s Men).

Anything else to try?
