Movie is not available

Server Version#: 1.15.4.994
Player Version#: 3.83.2
DSM Version#: 6.2.1-23824 Update 6

Since I updated my PMS to 1.15.4.994 every single movie is “Not Available”. But TV-Shows are playable. What could be the reason?

EDIT: Ok apparently it suddenly had no access to where all the files where stored. But I did not change anything manually.

This is not the problem. I did not change anything in the system and it worked perfectly before. I just installed the update and then it started to show me this error.

EDIT: Ok apparently it suddenly had no access to where all the files where stored. But I did not change anything manually.

I’m having the same issue. Plex server on Synology DS1515+.

Movies not found when trying to play yet the detailed info on each is correct as to file name and path. I can go to the physical file location and play them with a desktop media player, so there’s no file reason behind the sudden problem. I’ve deleted the file, refreshed Plex, then copied the file back. Once the Plex (movie) icon shows back up of the movie(s), it still doesn’t play.

The Synology control panel reports: Installed Version 1.15.4.994-107756f7e, Newest Version 1.13.4.5271-200287a06

@onethump

You have to give the Plex user access to the shared folder where your media is stored again.

For that you need to go to settings on you Synology --> shared folder --> choose the folder where your media is stored --> edit --> permissions --> give the user “plex” permissions for read/write.

Thanks. To be sure, before replying to your post, I double checked. It’s fine and Plex has R/W access. Nothing changed on my system except for the Plex Server Synology App update yesterday.

I’ve done everything in Q18 and it hasn’t resolved the issue. It would seem to be an issue with the last update.

Here you go.

Also these were what I’m seeing when trying to play back files.

Done. Downloaded the 1.15.5… and installed it (a version I’ve had in the past which Plex has reported needing updates. That why the current (update available) version was oddly lower than the newest version.

Q18: As last time, I cut-and-pasted the command lines. This time, instead of implicitly setting the path to the parent folder, I explicitly used the folder for Movies, TV Shows, and Music separately.

Power cycled the NAS after activity stabilized then tried to play a file again. The loading spinner was allowed to run for 5 minutes before I exited and did another log download.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the plex app for Synology based on the download you recommended (PlexMediaServer-1.15.4.994-107756f7e-x86_64)

Still a no-go. Strange that everything worked fine until last night when I did the update. No system file structure changes until following your directions today. Been running Plex Server for a few years and this is the first time it’s gagged on me.

I typically disable the default Admin and Guest accounts (and SSH support) for security reasons. After the first pass (above) I disabled the Admin account again (with errors continuing). During follow-ups, I left the account enabled (no difference in success).

I originally set the parent folder permissions (Data/Media) then the next time did the children (Data/Media/Movies, Data/Media/“TV Shows”, and Data/Media/Music) in their own series of command “passes”.

Going to the download page, I get the same as last time.

Seems I never got it. I have 2 variations of 1.15.4 (993 and 994).

And… to see if a library rebuild would fix things, I deleted and recreated my music library. ACK! Now it only finds 2 songs (and flags them as “unknown artists”. THAT isn’t good.

Now trying Killdozer’s suggestions (post 15) from

Stop Plex app, 600, 755, 644. Start Plex app. Still no-go. Tried newly added files too. Completely dead in the water.

I think I found a fix. Uninstalled and installed PlexMediaServer-1.14.1.5488-cc260c476-x86_64.

Then I went to Synology’s File Station and (for each of Movies, TV Shows, and Music):
Actions-Properties-Permissions (each permissions showed “custom” after the ssh sessions)

Admin/[MyAccount]: Full Control with it set for file/folder children
Plex: R/W with it set for file/folder children
Users/Everyone: Read Only

Started a new file scan in the Plex dashboard for music and it’s properly rebuilding the library as I type this. The movie files that failed before are now working without any library shenanigans.

From my perspective it seems to have been something in the update that got pushed out. I’ll skip update notices until such time as this thread gets and update on the fix.

Hey, Trumpy81, could I impose on you to now delete the included attachments in your posts that include PII for my system? Now that we have determined that it’s not a trustee rights issue, the attachments that have file names, IP address, and paths are no longer needed and are security holes.

I’ve already edited my posts to remove the log files where that info was obtained.

Thanks.

All:

I wanted this to be released before 1.15.4 went out. That was out of my hands.

Here is my release announcement . Please feel free to ask if there are any questions.
