I’ve seen this posted in the forum quite a few times with not a lot of answers. I was having no issues with PMS 1.5.5.3634 on my iMac running 10.12.4. But suddenly a few weeks ago my server stopped being able to download metadata for any new movies that I add. It says they are matched, but there is no metadata or posters downloading after a long processing time.
I’ve tried doing a Plex Dance. I’m tried different files. TV Shows have no problems. It’s just movies. I’m not running a router with iPv6. Part of the weird thing is I’ve put a few of the files on the Plex Cloud Server and those get metadata. But when it’s on my iMacs PMS it has issues.
Logs are attached. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Please do the following… (let’s give this a fresh shot)
Make sure Verbose logging is disabled (important)
Stop PMS
Clear out the Agent caches (which you found in Plug-ins Support) and the main Caches directory which I pointed out to you.
Start PMS
Analyse several items which do not have metadata.
Refresh/Reload the metadata for them
If this effective, repeat for all in that library
If ineffective, stop there and have PMS ZIP the logs (Settings - server - help - download logs)
Attach them here.
Also, with this ZIP file, list the exact file names for the file(s) tested. If MP4 files, verify the Name and Title fields in them. Include any metadata embedded there.
Clear out the Agent caches (which you found in Plug-ins Support) and the main Caches directory which I pointed out to you.
I did everything you said except for step 3, as mentioned before, there was no main Caches directory. I only have the Agent Caches that I found. I cleared those out but the problem still isn’t fixed.
I tried it with “Ed Wood (1194) Bluray-1080p.mkv”, “Stephen King’s It (1990) Bluray-720p Proper.mkv”, and “Logan (2017) WEBDL-1080p.mkv”
B. It (1994) it a TV miniseries and belongs under TV, not movies.

C. There is a Logan (2010) as well as Logan (2017).
Of these three titles, you have two incorrectly named or classified. Logan is mostly correct. Your names are "just as I got them’ style. You really do need to clean these up. PMS is flexible but it isn’t perfect. FileBot or TheRenamer will fix this.
I use FileBot (it’s free).
TV series renaming rule is: /nas/tv/{n}/Season {s.pad(2)/{n}.{s00e00}.{t}
Movie renaming rule is: /nas/movies/{n} ({y})/{n} ({y})
FileBot allows you to add additional information if you wish but I believe your first focus should be cleaning names up. If you have conflicts, such as multiple resolutions of the same file/extension combination, you can add things like [720p] at the very end of the movie title (but not TV) for your clarification. PMS will ignore anything inside [ ].
As always, when you perform renaming in-situ like this, be prepared to “Plex Dance” the media (movie it out of the media library, update library, empty trash, clean bundles, move it back, update again)
This was just a typo on my part. The filename was ‘(1994)’

I don’t use them ‘just as I got them’, the program I use to download things also renames them and strips out all of the extra stuff. I’ve just kept quality. But I can easily have them rename them all. But this also seems odd because this is the naming convention I’ve always used for the almost two years I’ve had Plex. It’s never had any problems before. One day it suddenly just stopped working.

I did the rename and Plex Dance on three different movie files. Still isn’t working. Attached are logs.
File Names:
Passengers (2016).mkv
Bugsy Malone (1976).mkv
Lion (2016).mkv

I don’t know what you’re running there but when PMS is looking for Clients and verifying its way out to the internet, this device is ‘sticking its head up’.
Can you disable the device from advertising or turn it off temporarily to see if this is causing you issue?

Should I run an “Optimize” command to see if that helps clear things up?

That was my listening port for uTorrent’s WebUI. I turned off the WebUI. Did another Plex Dance with the same files. Still nothing. Though I am a relative novice when it comes to coding etc so it’s quite possible there was something with that port that I didn’t catch or didn’t know to do.
Move your torrent UI port number to something much lower and non-standard. 8080 is a traditional web page. It’s also were devices ‘live’. If you can move it to ‘888’ or ‘777’ (oddball), you’re in much better shape. Also, if it has an ‘advertise’ setting (don’t know your specific client) in Preferences, turn it off… Its Web/UI should be otherwise silent until opened directly by your browser.
Please do optimize the database. Once Optimized, restart PMS or just reboot the machine.
You’ll be pleased to know, PMS sees all these and wants to scan / process them. Some of these exist already but PMS wanting to scan them again means something has changed -OR- it never managed to match them before (for whatever reason).

I was having issues with uTorrent anyways so I just completely deleted the program from my computer. Emptied the trash. Optimized the database. Did a Plex Dance. Still not working.
I am honestly at a loss here. I tried going to the port directly in a web browser and nothing loads. Everything seems like it should be working. And yet, it isn’t.
Set a new instance with only defaults. (give it a temporary name)
Add one section at a time, optimizing the database after each is fully complete.
Evaluate library completeness when done.
So to be clear before I start, you want me to take the parent folders where all of my media is and rename them. I have my library spread out on a couple different HDDs so do it for each one I assume. Then I get lost by what you mean in steps 5 & 6.
rename Plex Media Server to PMS.save
I do not want to destroy/lose what you currently have. I want a clean, install first… Then we will decide how to proceed.
So I did what you said and added a library of movies from the folder that included the files that we were testing before and a couple dozen others that had been downloaded just fine before. I let it process it all and no metadata matched. I optimized the database and refresh the library, still nothing.
Ben,
I did not mean to confuse. With these results in hand, I can see the full sequence.
How many manual plug-ins (or channels) did you add/load?

Sorry you weren’t confusing me, the situation is and why it won’t work. But in response to your question, I haven’t added any channels to this new server. I literally just opened the server, added a library, and that was it.
In my old server that we saved off, I only had one or two channels. One i deleted recently because I never used which left me with just the Trakt.tv channel.
I am looking more and more now to your networking. Curl error 28 is a very strong indicator of network issues.
PMS has issued a metadata request either to Plex.tv, imdb, tvdb, or TheMovieDB and these requests, are not completing in time. If PMS doesn’t get the full block of data, it will not populate any of it. This is what you’re seeing.
This having been said, Speed test your Mac’s network performance out to the internet. ping test (via terminal) plex.tv, themoviedb, thedbdb.org, and imdb.
