Unexpected Playback Error - Samsung TV. Was working fine for months

I am having an issue where my parents cannot stream content from their Samsung television. I do have security set to preferred and the app on the tv configured to the proper settings. I have done the following to try and troubleshoot:

Checked for corrupt data
-Uninstalled Plex
*Removed H-Key in registry
*Removed app from windows using Plex uninstaller
*restarted pc many times
*Deleted Plex folder in AppData

-Reinstalled newest server from Plex downloads page
*updated settings for ‘new’ server to preferred

-Reinstalled app on Samsung Tv

-Restarted internet modem/router at my house and at parents.

Note: Everyone except this Samsung, can connect just fine. Any thoughts?

Can you elaborate a little. So I assume the tizen app loads if you can see the version. Is the issue only when you try to play something (i.e. Can you see and browse the server content) or you cannot see the server at all?

If you can get into the app settings and are connected to a server tell the client to log to the server (either debug or verbose) and then review the logs on your server for anything interesting out related to this client

Thank you for the response! The TV can connect to the server and can browse just fine. It’s only when selecting a video does it say playback error occurred. It has been working just fine before.

Any way to fix the log so I am not looking at so much content that isn’t needed?
Otherwise, I have no idea what I’m looking for.

I installed Plex for a friend with a Samsung 2021 tv and get exactly the same scenario.
I can connect to the server fine - but if I want to play music (flac format) the error occurs

Their TV wasn’t having a problem streaming any kind of content. It mysteriously changed about 1-2 weeks ago.

I had trouble playing some movies with exact same error(Unexpected Playback), but it only happened while trying to cast from other devices. It helped me, maybe it will help you too:

Plex TV App → Settings → Video → Remote Quality → Original

Unfortunately, that didn’t help :(. Is there any way to contact a support team at all?

Samsung tvs have problems. Just had to help a remote user on my Plex two days ago with Samsung problems . There is a thread somewhere from a few months ago of how to fix Samsung and other tv models settings to make them work better. Something got discontinued awhile back that caused issues. While perhaps your model wasn’t effected at the time it may be now.

Either way, the ideal thing to do is spend $50 on a Google tv and plug it into their Samsung and forget about all these smart tv app issues. That’s what I convinced my friend to do. It’s faster and better then what’s on the tv so I’m never clear why anyone uses the smart tv feature in TV’s.

looks like there are a multitude of threads on this same issue. have you tried all of the troubleshooting methods laid out in those threads? i would first look at the solutions around secure connection settings if i were you.

I have indeed! That’s why it is so bizarre. Everything was great up until a week ago. I should be saying this:

Why the hell can’t Plex devs figure out networking? There is no reason they cannot establish proper networking from client app to server app with an authentication key. Netflix, Hulu, Disney, YouTube, the list goes on…all work perfectly on the TV. But yet, Plex devs are too lazy to figure out any kind of networking at all. I was going to pay for the premium service, but lack of support + awful networking just doesn’t cut it.

To be fair, all of those services don’t have a user hosting their own server where the user has control of all of the settings and how the networking works. Also, Plex doesn’t have the same leverage on Samsung and how the app is maintained as Google does.

And I ain’t that smart so I probably skipped some of the biggest issues with why it’s more difficult for Plex to work flawlessly for you. Talking trash about their devs though isn’t helpful for anyone. Just don’t use the product.
