I have two TVs and streaming from off-site. One LG and one Samsung.
The Samsung TV won’t play anything at all, neither movies, TV-series nor music.
The only error message I see is this one:
I have tried to allow insecure connections as suggested elsewhere, but that did not help…
The LG TV plays nicely if I just choose a lossy format on the sound and SRT subtitles of movies and TV series.
I really do not know where to start.
Bumping this once hoping someone has a solution…
The same here. Plex on Samsung shows playback error on everything… was working fine a week ago, now can’t even play trailers
Same problem since the app updated two hours ago. Tired to reset the app and still the same issue. It will give unexpected playback issue or just won’t give any message and won’t start to play across all video files. Everything worked fine on all previous versions with the last year.
Same here. Allow insecure connections is enabled both in server and tv. Tried turning direct streaming off on tv.
Has anyone had a solution please?
If I uninstall the app on the TV and reinstall, add settings, etc. Works fine. Until you quit the app. Reloading the app results in a blank screen. So uninstall again, enter settings.
Then attempting to sign in, i take photo of the QR code, go through that on the mobile phone, it says successfully linked. The second it says that, the plex on the TV changes to say “unknown error”.
However, if I uninstall the TV app, reinstall and go straight to sign in, it works fine. Everything is good until you quit the app. Attempting to reload the app results in the black screen, no plex logo or anything.
I have similar issue where my samsung tv cannot connect to or find my plex server, on same local network. Insecure connections are allowed, which shouldn’t matter on LAN.
I have similar issue (samsung 65qn95b) since updated plex to latest version. When I press play nothing happens.
Folks,
NEED DEBUG (not verbose) LOGS ZIP file, which captures the playback attempt, to help.
Without logs, there’s no way of knowing anything and the issues will continue unresolved.
I’ve had the same issue and reinstalling has been the only temp fix since everything stops working after closing the app.

Here are my server logs with debugging enabled. If you need any other information just let me know.
Not sure these show much. My plex started with the unexpected playback error. Then deleted the app. Reinstalled app. App then works fine until you quit it. Restarting App results in black screen of death on TV. Server is local LAN, auto login on TV is off, insecure everything is ON.
I probably mucked it up, but App installed with logging to server enabled. Quit App. Cleared logs. Turned on App and received black screen of death. Downloaded log bundle.

Deleted App again, installed. DID NOT log in this time. Added IP of internal server and set logging to it - these were only settings entered. Quit. Reloaded. Maybe some more info in the logs this way.

Also, don’t know if this is to you, but Wireshark did give a few TLS Encrypted Alert errors on the TV’s outbound traffic.
Internet Protocol Version 4, Src: xx.xx.xx.xx Dst: 44.240.40.180

I’m facing the similar issue of “unexpected playback error”. I tried to install the app on the Samsung TV, insecure connection, etc. Nothing is working.
It only started to happen recently.

I’m seeing the same. Attempting to start playback moves straight to the error message with this in the logs:
[VisualMediaPlaybackScreen] We failed to create a playback session. Cannot read property 'getEpoch' of undefined
Then, for extra measure, when pressing the “OK” button it fails to close the playback screen, only popping up the menu icons on the left. The app is then unresponsive until force closed.
The error when hitting “OK”:
[Unhandled]: Cannot read property 'off' of undefined
TypeError: Cannot read property 'off' of undefined

This is on an S95b. Good luck!
After reading this message from markus101, I checked the TV app, which upgraded to 5.60.2, and it seems to be working fine now.
Mine is fixed as well now that it has 5.60.2
