We'll I went back to the first comment wheee cert management was added and movies are still pausing every 17 minutes or so. To go back further I would need some aditional info on how to add certs to the older versions.
Please let me know what else I can do to help.
Do you have Plex iOS, if so can you try watching a known problem file through on that to see if you get pausing as well?
Also what ATV firmware and PlexConnect is host version of OS are you on now?
Just watched another movie last night and I am still having this issue. If I am the only one I will try to find a way to run plexconnect on a physical box to see if that fixes it. Or if there is something else I can try pleas let me know. It’s kind of annoying to only be able to watch 40 min of a movie at a time.
Well the computer that I thought I could use to test a physical ubuntu server isn't working so i have been stuck with my VM. Last night I updated to the most recent version and am still having this issue. more frequently actually. Is there any logging provided by plex connect to show why video might have stopped?
I'm having exactly the same problem with the latest PMS and PlexConnect versions. My PMS is on CentOS 6 (no VM). When this happens the video pauses, audio stops, but the native subtitles (provided by PlexConnect) keep going, and the time keeps going as well.
Will take a look at the logs next time this happens.
I have the exact same issue and have had this issue with 3 different clients now - WDTV (latest version), Apple TV (Gen 3), and PS3. The WDTV just couldn't handle it at all, pausing most movies after only a few seconds. Apple TV had better luck but would still pause after maybe an hour or so and then only playback in 2-3 minute chunks from then on. I found that exiting the movie playback on the device and then opening it again seems to fix this continual buffering but I really don't want to have to stop a movie halfway through to get smooth playback, it sort of breaks the immersion... In an effort to avoid coing this, I just switched to the PS3 and have had the best results with it, only having a single pause during a 2 hour movie about an hour and 20 minutes in, and when I unpaused it just picked back up and kept playing. Have tried both wifi and power line connection with no difference.
I checked the PMS log on the server and the transcoding speed is always several times greater than real time with no obvious errors that I can see (speed => lines average right around 3-4 with lows of 2.5 and highs of 8.5). Changing the bitrate down to 12mbps or less definitely helps, but I'm trying not to do that in order to keep the quality as close to native as possible, since I ripped the blu-rays and only changed their container to mkv in order to maintain quality in the first place. Network speed should not be an issue with GigE Cat5e everywhere, a GigE switch at the HTPC connected to a GigE router which has power line 500 adapters connected to it going to the PS3. The HTPC is a 4670k 8GB Windows 8.1 system running off a 120GB SSD (have also run Windows 7 with no difference). I really hope there's a setting somewhere that can fix this, I feel like the hardware is all top-notch and this is a virtual best case scenario so I really have nowhere to go from here except changing settings. The router is an Asus N56u, one of the better wired performance routers on the market. Wireless is handled by a separate Netgear Nighthawk AC router and is not involved at any point in this process.
it's been a year now sense I started this but i think i found the issue the other day. For whatever reason when I built the first Ubuntu server VM to run plex & plexconnect I figured that plex might want more resources then the standard 1gig of ram and 1 vCPU that is provisioned by selecting Ubuntu 64bit as the OS so while trying to figure this issue out I ended up giving the VM 4 vCPU and 8gig of ram. After testing several configurations I ended up crating a new VM using the base 1gig of ram and 1vCPU and everything is working great. I have only watched one movie that I was previously having issues with however with the old setup it was pausing every 15 to 20 min and this time I got through the whole movie. hope this helps someone else as well.
Hmm, this let me think on the black screen of death issue, too. With an older version of plexconnect and an former iOS the aTV was caching nearly the whole movie. Now it's only buffer for 10-15 miniutes.
