Movie playback pausing

Sorry all if this has already been asked. I was not able to find any info on the topic myself.

I recently went through the process of updating my apple tv to version 6.0.2 and installing the newest version of plexconnect and everything that goes along with that i.e. certs. Most everything works great TV shows play fine. However when i am watching a 1080p movie about every 35 minutes the movie pauses and I have to hit menu once to go back and select the movie again and hit continue. then i am good for anoher 35 minutes about.

Has anyone else run into this or have any ideas how to fix it?

Thank you for any help.

try setting plexconnect to 'Transcode'.

try setting plexconnect to 'Transcode'.

That may work round the issue but does not fix it.

Sorry about posting without the requested info. Here you go. I am going to try and figure out how to set plexconnect to transcode and see if that helps.

Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software):

Detail on the media file if it is an issue related to playing a media file (in order to get the necessary information on a particular media file go into the Plex web interface, select the video file, when it brings up the page for the media file click on the "i" information button on the left hand side, it will then bring up a "media info" box, click on the "View XML" button, it will then open a browser window with the relevant information, copy this to http://www.pastebin.com and use the pastebin link to post the details; posting the information directly in the forum may mess up the formatting and generally takes up a lot of space):
Can't figure out the xml past to the website so it's a 1080p DTS5.1 file

Are you using subs?

as far as I know they are turned off or at least none are showing.

I've been experiencing this exact same issue.  Seems to happen consistently with my untouched blu-ray mkv files, meaning no re-encoded video or audio.  These files are typically around 25-30gb.  Re-encoded 1080p mkv files (8-12gb) do not produce any playback problems.

I am setting the quality to 20mbps in PlexConnect.  If I bump it down to 8 or 12mbps, the playback issues also "disappear." It appears the problem arises when the quality setting is higher than 12mbps AND the source is a 1080p high bitrate MKV file (not re-encoded).

I am getting something similar as well with a fairly diverse selection of videos.  Blu-Ray remuxes seem to consistently have issues.  I still have some buffering issues if I force it to transcode but this may be because my processor is too weak (AMD Llano A6).

If anyone is experiencing this issue you NEED to provide full details of your setup (see sticky for what is needed) or there is no say to find out the common denominator to fix it.

Yep, after more testing, it seems Blu-ray remuxes w/ really high bitrates are the culprits.  Not sure what the bitrate threshold is, as not all remuxes are having playback issues.  I tried all different quality settings with and without transcoding enabled.

I'm using these latest versions (as of yesterday...Dec. 5, 2013):  PlexConnect, Plex Pass PMS (Win7), and Apple TV firmware.  I've also tried wired and wireless connections with the same playback results.

Can someone experiencing the issue see if downgrading their PMS fixes the issue, try working through as many as you can.

Once PlexConnect hands off playback to the ATV it has little involvement so it would be helpful to see first if it is a PMS bug (more likely, especially given users appear to be on different firmwares and PC systems).

f00b4r - I can try to get you more stats on specs of files and computer/logs later. Am away and on too slow of a connection to accomplish this right now. I can say that I have experienced issue with every update of plex connect since just about the very first public release. I never have any issues with TV shows which are typically 720p.

I can definitely try downgrading however I didn’t save the old version and am not sure how to download it from github. Could you provide a link?

All old versions are available at github.

ok wow 474 commits / version. How can I found out what version I am running?  f00b4r is there a version that you would like me to start from. or specific versions you would like me to try?

It was the plex media server I wanted to test downgrading with - just try jumping back eg 5 at a time and see if if makes a difference.

Ok going on vacation for a week. Will test when I get back.

We’ll I went back to the first comment wheee cert management was added and movies are still pausing every 17 minutes or so. To go back further I would need some aditional info on how to add certs to the older versions.

Please let me know what else I can do to help.

You are running plexconnct on a VMware guest os?
