Movie Posters all in a foreign language

Server Version#: 1.18.9.2571, running on Linux
Player Version#: n/a

Over the past month, I have noticed that ALL movies that are newly added to my server are only offering Foreign Language movie posters (looks like Spanish and Portugese). I’ve looked in the Agent settings, and don’t see anything different. File names are all within standard, and have been. This seems to be something that started in January or February of this year. Any ideas on how to get English posters to start showing up again as an option?

Setting the preferences for this library should do the job:

  • General: Language = (the metadata language you’d like to see; e.g. English)
  • Advanced: check Prefer artwork based on library language

If you manually matched some items, make sure you have selected the correct language as well.

You figure out the cause for this? I noticed this started doing this today as well

Mine is doing this now, too. I checked all the settings, and nothing seems incorrect. I’ll admit, I couldn’t find the “Advanced\Prefer Artwork based on library language” at first, but I have since found it.

Is it for all of the movies you add? Mine is only on certain movies

No, it only seems to be some movies. Blame It In Rio (1984) and Black Robe (1991) are the two I’m trying to fix right now, but I have over 5,000 movies to go through, and I’d rather get this issue resolver before I go through the rest of the library.

Edit your library,
on the General tab, verify that the language selector is still in your preferred language.

Do also inspect the Plex XML info of a few movies with the issue,
note down the content of the ?lang=.. parameter in the guid="...

Did you discover this by refreshing the metadata, or was it when you added the movies recently? Mine seems to be for certain older movies only. The newer movies are fine and it picks the english posters automatically

I thought of that and inspected the files…all of them are in “en”. It started when the update was put out the other day

Which agent is mentioned in the guid= of these movies? Is it imdb or themoviedb or something else?

Mine has Plex Movie.

mine is plexapp.agents.imdb

And what is the order of lines under
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
?

Is ‘Local Media Assets’ in the topmost position?
Try dragging it to the lowest position, then Refresh Metadata again.

plex movie, fanart, cinematerial, opensubtitles, and then local media assets is at the bottom. And they’re all checked

Does this change anything?

Another thing to check:
Are other posters actually available when you edit the movie, on the Posters tab?
Or are those hispanic posters the only ones available?

Do you know where the location would be for the cache on a shield?

No they arent. I have had to find the posters online and paste them for the affected movies

Sorry, no. I think it is not even accessible, unless you moved a part of the storage to an external hard drive or something.
Oh, the joys of a closed operating system (Android).

I hope you put the poster as a file beside the video and did not paste it into the Edit Movie dialog? https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220677-local-media-assets-movies/

No…i have been finding the correct poster online and selecting the option “enter a url” and putting the URL location of the poster. It has worked fine for me so far…
