I am running server 1.40.1.8120, and I’ve lost almost all of my movie posters sent upgrading. While researching the issue, I’ve tried some potential fixes, such as enabling local assets, refreshing metadata, disabling the local assets, and refreshing metadata that did not fix it. The weird thing is if I go in to update the poster manually and then cancel out, and then when I refresh metadata, that resolves the issue for that movie.
Odd. I was able to reproduce this in some cases where the original poster art was never locked and was the default poster art. Also if you attempt to do it again, it won’t work a second time.
This issue was the result of the Beta Plex Media Server 1.40.1.8111 where Analyzing a file would change the poster and background art to an image from the video. This build was quickly reverted then a new Beta release was pushed out Plex Media Server 1.40.1.8120. Linking to the forum thread where this was initially reported for possible solutions to get your posters back. Some users used a backup and another has script automating the selecting of a new poster.
Thank you for your response! Unfortunately, none of those suggestions from that thread resolved my issue. I was able to fix the issue fairly simply. I may have even included an unnecessary step but here is what I did in case anyone else has this problem:
I renamed my movie folders to movies.old, movies2.old (this may have been an unnecessary step)
I then did a scan library, and my movies were removed from Plex. I then went into the library management and erased all of the folders.
Then I added the movie folders, and all of my posters were replaced!
Ugh, sorry that that you went through all that but glad to hear you found a solution that eventually got you back. Thanks for providing your steps to be get back to normal.
