Movie Posters not showing up on all movies

Good morning!

I have a humble plex server that I 'm running with about 400 movies on it. No problems until about 2 weeks ago. Currently, I only have a some of my movies that show posters or metadata where as before all movies would show just fine. Here is what I’ve done so far:

  • Forced update of all metadata on the movies library
  • Repaired the Plex install
  • Completely uninstalled Plex (including Registry and AppData files) and reinstalled (new database) on new drive
  • Cleared HTTP cache and log files

Still having issues with movie metadata not showing up. One last weird thing. If I select a movie that has no metadata and ‘unmatch’ it, the poster and metadata sometimes appears!

Thanks in advance for your help!

And all of your media is named and structured exactly as required per the Plex naming requirements? Please provide exact examples for a few movies that don’t match.

Headed out the door but here is a quick sample: Thanks!

While not mandatory, it is recommended to have your movies in folders.
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200381023-Naming-Movie-files

/Movies
   /Avatar (2009)
      Avatar (2009).mkv
   /Batman Begins (2005)
      Batman Begins (2005).mp4
      Batman Begins (2005).eng.srt
      poster.jpg

Also, your media files, might have some metadata stored in them that could be causing issues (metadata entered incorrectly). Check to see how they are tagged and remove the metadata from the media file, then try and rescan and see if it picks up.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The thing is, I’m pretty sure that my media files are fine and the flat structure has worked flawlessly the past 8 months.

Anybody have insight on the unmatch scenario I described in the original post? There is definitely something going on with Plex itself.

I would suggest posting some logs, and see if an error can be found in them.

I am having a similar issue, I think its file type related. Mp4 files do not grab data for me. MKV does.

Set the Local Media Agent at the bottom.

Here are the logs as requested

Hello! It’s been a few weeks. Any ideas out there? Thanks!!

I have also been experiencing this problem for a number of weeks now. While I have not determined the cause or solution, I can assure you that in my case it is not the files, their naming, directory structure, or any embedded metadata. Something else is up.

Same problem here, it has been two weeks, anyone have any idea?

Still experiencing this problem, @oyehia ? I certainly am. Among the 72 most-recently-added Movies in my library, this situation continues to plague 43 of them. It’s pretty much to be expected at this point that the Movies library will look like ■■■■ going forward.

@TheDillweed have you had any luck resolving this?
