File Match Issue: Issues with Agents/Movie folder - missing metadata/posters

I’ve looked at quite a few other google posts on the forums and reddit and can’t find something particular to my situation.
server version: 1.0.3.2461
Windows 10 64-bit

  1. my files are all named correctly and before step 2, everything was perfect
  2. I just switched to a new hard drive and redownloaded plex
  3. my files were not on the old drive or new drive
  4. after downloading plex, my tv shows all downloaded onto plex just fine, metadata downloaded for everything, episodes all named correctly, etc…
  5. movies is where I am having a huge problem. After downloading all my movies onto plex (into the movie library), using the default plex server agent and default set up
    a. half of my movies have metadata and posters
    b. the other 45% have posters, but no metadata
    c. 5% have metadata, but no posters
    d. I tried switching to the “the movie database” to see if that would help, saved it for my library, tried a refresh as a whole and on singular files. It was able to pull up metagata more efficiently, but consistently misses posters
    e. I tried moving around the load orders for “plex movie” and “the movie database”, did not help
    f. I thought I found a solution in unmatching and rematching files one by one, but that only works for a few files, and I have to manually pick “the movie database”. auto-pick and plex options do not work in matching.
    g. so basically at the moment, movie database is getting more metadata for my movies, but is missing posters on average. plex movie is getting more posters, but missing metadata on average.
    h. I moved some of my movies into my tv hard drive to see if it was the hard drives fault. Still getting the same problem, so it is not the hard drives.

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Hi there and welcome to the forums. I’m confused by a few things here.

Did you switch out your OS drive? So you had to reinstall Plex.

How do you have the files names? Give an exact example please of one of the movies that isn’t working right.

You can’t just change the agent for a library. That will only affect movies that haven’t been matched or new moviess you add. It will not change existing ones already in your library.
e. I tried moving around the load orders for “plex movie” and “the movie database”, did not help
f. I thought I found a solution in unmatching and rematching files one by one, but that only works for a few files, and I have to manually pick “the movie database”. auto-pick and plex options do not work in matching.
This is what you need to do to rematch an existing movie already in your library. There is no mass method to do this.

The only way to truly see why things are not working is for you to provide the logs. Try this.

  • Create a new folder
  • Copy or move some (5 or so) of the movies that are not working into this folder
  • Create a new library in Plex and point it to this folder, select the Plex Movie Agent during the setup
  • Once it’s done find the Plex Media Scanner.log and com.plexapp.imdb.log files and upload them here so I can review.
  1. Yes, I had to reinstall Plex.
  2. one example. I’ll use the movie 300 and the sequel. Using the default plex movie agent, after reinstalling. The first movie 300, is titled as 300 (2006).mp4 the sequel is titled as 300 Rise of an Empire (2014).mp4 The first movie 300, received the posters, but no other metadata. the sequel received both posters and all metadata.
  3. I didn’t realize just changing the agent wouldn’t work. I did try removing a set of movies (the 3 ninjas series) and placed them into different drives and different folders, using the 2 different agents (plex and database), refreshing the movie list in between each time so plex would see them as missing. I tried a different folder in the same drive first, both agents, did not help. Tried a different drive, same thing, did not work.
  4. I’ll work on those logs right now. I’ll post this just for now.

Thanks for the help so far.

In addition to the last post. I forgot to add, I wasn’t creating a new library for item number 3. I kept using the same library, so maybe that was the problem.

I didn’t see the com.plexapp.imdb.log, each of mine all had “agents” between plexapp and imdb. I’ve never posted logs before so not sure if I grabbed the right one or not.

@MovieFan.Plex Have you had a chance to check my messages/logs? I forgot to tag you in my message with the logs. Thanks

Hey, yes I saw your logs, sorry about that. It took me a while to review. Your example above you mentioned the 300 movies, but your logs don’t show those movies so it’s hard to know what is going on. Can you perform the steps from this other comment, https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/908454/#Comment_908454, using the 300 movies, then get me the logs and let me know what posters/info are missing. Thanks.

@MovieFan.Plex I followed those steps. I added the 300 movies as I listed above. The movie “300” has the poster, lists the video definition, audio type, and the length of the movie, but no metadata. The 300 sequel “rise of the” has everything the “300” movie has, but includes the metadata such as director, writer, movie summary, etc… (so all the metadata). Here are the new logs.

Thanks

I see some errors in your log. These are known and are fixed in 1.1.2, which is currently in Plex Pass preview. Once this becomes public, it should resolved your issues.

Awesome, thanks for helping me out, Good to know you guys are on top of it,

I have 1.1.2 and the MOVIE metadata is still not downloading, especially the posters.

What movie are you searching for? And provide the Plex scanner and agent logs please.

I reinstalled windows and I’m having the same problem. They are even on the same external hard drive. Most of my movies aren’t matching. There’s no match option on my main movie page so I have to go through each individual movie and do it manually. And they’re only showing up if I choose the movie database. I’ve made it so that’s my designated agent and it moved it to the top of the list but it still won’t do anything automatically. If there was a match option to do my whole library that would be awesome.
