Movie Posters Now Not Matching

Hi Can Anyone Help
Up until a week ago all my movies were being matched perfectly

however today I’ve added movies and everything is matching all details of movie except the poster

Just a recent observation. I have(well, had now) a few movies that I added years ago that no longer displays a poster. All the other metadata is there… Just no poster artwork. After looking closer at the problem I discovered some of the release years on theMovieDB changed and I can only assume Plex after updating to 1.6.1 did a full rescan of my libraries causing some to partly unmatch

This also includes a few I newer movies I re-added(better copy). I did the PlexDance on the SD copy before I added the better HD copy. Same thing. Metadata would show but no poster artwork. I changed the year and did the PlexDance. The poster is back now.

I had poster issues myself lately, for almost a week no posters would show up on any new movies although TV shows worked fine. Rebooted the server etc with no resolution. I was about to sit down over the weekend and dig into the problem and it suddenly started working again on its own so I’m thinking there was a issue somewhere this past week aside from our own setups?

Interesting… Just has an issue with Baywatch (2017) but the year was right and hadn’t changed.
I decided to edit the movie and manually select a poster. There were about 20 different posters to choose from.
As a test, I selected almost all of them. 5 of them would not display(ending result was a blank poster). I refreshed the metadata then tried to edit again. Now I only about 10 to choose from.
Looking at themoviedb -> https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/339846-baywatch/images/posters
I can see all the posters I once had in Plex to choose from. The ones Plex is not showing now are the ones that have incorrect ratios.
Seems like Plex auto-refreshed the movie, detected incorrect aspect ratio posters online(somehow), deleted the local image metadata and didn’t update the movie with another poster.

Okay. That brings up another question or two I have.

  1. I assume with every new Plex version, Plex is gathering additional information(retrieves data for every field Plex uses) on content then previous versions. This true? If so, does it re-scan and download all the metadata again or just the missing new fields?

  2. Does Plex flag a file after it believes it has retrieved all possible information(data for every field Plex uses). If no, then why not? I would think a soft lock would be a good thing. No need to re-scan and download metadata again for a file that has all fields filled in. It would also help in those cases posters get flagged as having an incorrect aspect ratio.
