It’s pretty irritating trying to setup a complex set of pre-rolls. It would be great if Movie Pre-Rolls could be set to a regular or smart playlist. If this was true, we could use the smart playlist controls to shuffle “other videos” in any way. It would make it easier and more user friendly to arrange several pre-rolls in sequence, or to have optimised converted versions at different resolutions already available.
Smart Playlists already give us the functionality to sort randomly, to limit to a specific number of entries, or even build more advanced logic like a smart playlist which only shows pre-rolls which haven’t been played in the last 7 days, so we could have fun with it while keeping things fresh and preventing users from seeing the same thing again and again relentlessly.
The current interface is needlessly technical and kind of broken. Mixing ; with , doesn’t seem to work to create two shuffled lists that play in sequence (i.e. a;b;c,d;e;f seems to cause “a”, “b”, “c,d”, “e”, “f” to play randomly, or something like that) It’s bizarre to be managing media using weird string lists inside of a media server that is so much more capable in every other area.
