Movie scanner versus other video scanner

Hi

So I had a Mac. Used plex to scan in my movies all of which are held in the same folder.

It scanned 289 out of 293.

I cannot see any reason why 4 didn’t scan.

Copied the folder of movies to a windows machine, installed plex server for windows and it missed the same 4 files

So created a new film library of type “other movies” and it finds the missing 4

I have spent ages trying to convert these 4 files, rename them, change metadata and so on. I can’t see any difference in structure or naming or metadata why they won’t scan in as files in the pre-defined movie library but will as “other movie” type

Is there someone who might be able to suggest why?

Thanks

What are the filenames that aren’t matching?
What are the parent directories?
What movies should they be matching with?

How to find the discrepancy between number of files on disk and the number of movies in the Plex movie library

Hi.

Plex server is windows, version 1.19.4.2935

The 4 files that dont get found when PMS misses them as “movies” but finds them as “other movies” are all mp4 files

The folder structure - all my movies are in the same folder off the root of a shared network disk

Y:\Media\Movies\Library\Feature Films\

The names are

The Equalizer 2 which should match to the Equalizer 2
Now You See Me 2 which should match to Now You See Me 2
Armageddon - the Directors Cut which should match to Armageddon - the Directors Cut

The 4th file I wouldnt expect to match to anything as such - its a film my kids made via moviemaker

I have a file analyser called MediaInfo which reads some meteadata for any file

All four missing ones, like the 280 odd that the Movie Scanner did find, apart from size and length etc show them to be MPEG-4. I tend to put all movies through the same converter to the same profile whether they need it or not.

Thanks

MP4.

Thanks

I had this in the copy buffer - odd how often it comes up…:

Thanks

Working my way through the different things to try. No luck yet.

However the webtools tool seems very useful and its a shame Plex is moving away from Plug Ins. I did download and run the webtools and it found a few missing metadata info but only for films that plex movie scanner did find

I dont know what they are moving to but having looked at Github pages there seems a lot of useful tools that Plex themselves are not offering (one of my bugbears is the lack of an iTunes playlist importer that works as I have about 200 playlists in my itunes and dont wish to recreate them)

Thanks
