Movie split into multiple files - only plays 1 file

I have a few movies that are split into CD1/CD2... Plex manages to combine these, and playing through the web browser seems OK... however on the Apple TV the movie ends at CD1, and I can't seem to play it right through...

Any ideas?

Read the FAQ linked in the "read before posting" sticky.

Ahhh, oops.

  • Do stacked files work?: Support for stacked files, where a film is split into multiple parts, is not yet available. We plan to add support for this in the future."

Thanks.

borrowing the thread.. i have the same problem, i have some child movies that only will play the first part for some reason over PlexConnect.. works on my jailbroken tv with the plex client and on the webinterface.. Any ideas how to fix this and how to find whats the problem?

"stacked files" should work in aTV/PlexConnect as long as the media is "native playable".

PMS Transcoder does not seem to support stacked file yet...

Please verify the fileformat - ie. container+codecs.

I can't tell you exact which containers and codecs are natively playable. But if I had to guess it is only MP4/M4V and Quicktime .MOV files amongst the video containers that are supported. But both of them need to contain specific codecs as well.

You movie is in a .AVI container. It will not work. Convert into MP4/H.264 for this to work. Or simply just merge your video files. Keeping two separate parts of a movie is so 1999. ;)

hahaha yeah i know  :P  guess i need to re-rip them or combine them... thx for the help  :D

ps. Best program to combine them? .ds

is there any plans to make AVi files stackable?? i was gonna fix my whole collection  with single files but i realized  had 400 movies that was cd 1 and 2.. gonna take forever to re rip them...

or maybe someone knows a program that combines them without re encode them?

Well, the issue with stacked AVIs is definitely on the PMS side. Well, at least this is my point of view.

The transcoder would need to support that - and it doesn't. I have no idea why they advertise the "stacked stuff" and then miss to handle it correctly...

PlexConnect itself should be able to play stacked media, provided you have aTV native files.

but how can i play it on the web interface? or on the tv app?? i mean its the same PMS?  am just confused

What is "the same PMS"?

For native media PMS does nothing - but providing a list of URLs. The client is in charge for the stacking.

With transcoding, the client asks for just ONE movie - the rest *should* be handled by PMS/transcoder. Unfortunately it isn't... as it seems.

oh .. what i mean is.. the pms can stack the movie while in web browsser or plex app.. but not in plexconnect.. only when i use native files (mov,mp4 etc) do the stacking works in the ATv.. am just trying to understand why that is :)

and is there somethnig they havto change in the PMS to make it work? or is it in the plexconnect code?

...because in web browser/plex app on a "real" computer even AVI is native?

Check the PMS log if the transcoder kicks in.

"real" computer even AVI is native?

ohhh i never thought about like that :D

thats to bad.. it sucks when the movie stops and i need to finish it trough my ipad :/

any suggestions on a good program that combines the files?

Have you tried Handbrake? Might be something that it can do.

Or future proof this by simply making MKV files out of them when you are doing this. MKVtoolnix should be able to help. Make the movies into one file, and make the file MKV :)

yeah tried handbrake couldent find any way to combine them..

well i havent ripped all of them myself if u know what i mean ;) so i havto find a good program that can turn them into a single file.. i always download single files nowdays but as i said i have like 400 that isent :P.. i will have a look at MKVtoolnix se if they can do it .. thanks :)

just wanted to let u know, i tried the MKVtoolnix and it was exactly what i was looking for.. no unesssasary coding.. took 1 min a movie so its gonna be fast and painless..only thing i am missing is option to make a que so i can have it coding during nighttime.. but i guess u cant get everything.. thx again :D

The ROKU app does not play more than 1 file in any Stacked videos.  Why have stacking if it can't play.  Doubly troubelsome to PLEX users that find Plex automatically merging files that the user did not intend or expect would be merged into a stack at all. The stacking feature is not well thought out, designed. or implementede, IMHO.

Both the official Roku app and the preview app supports stacked video. So I suggest you create a thread in the Roku subforum and attach the logs so someone with Roku knowledge can help you.
