I am a new user importing my Movie Files (haven’t done TV Series/Episodes yet) into Plex Server. I figured out that some movie names are from the Title data of the movie file instead of using the File Name example Filename “Mirrors 2”, Tile Plex is using “02 Mirrors 2 - Unrated Horror 2010 Eng Subs 1080p [H264-mp4]” - which is the Title in the File Data. How can I tell Plex to use the Filenames Only?
I have way too many files to go in and edit each one.
Thanks,
I moved it down in all 3 sections (Personal Media, Plex Movie, The Movie Database) and then did “Scan Library Files” from the Movies options - no change. I then did the opposite, moved it up to the top in all 3 sections, ran the Scan again - no change.
I must still be doing something wrong? On the right side of the screen the options are Play, add to Queue, and Optimize. What does Optimize do?
if you edit that library.
the general section should show it as a movie library
the advance section should have scanner as Plex Movie Scanner
and the agent should be Movie Database,
that’s the agent your configuring in the agent section
as pointed out you need to move the Local Media asset to the bottom of the list,
Why, for this example
The list of agents in that agent list do different things. They run top to bottom as enabled.
The first one The Movie Database tries to match the file names to the The Movie Database to gather the metadata, then it goes to the next one that is marked as active.
Each one adds information that the one previous couldn’t match.
That’s why file structure is so important.
a movie should be;
movie/
The Movie Name (1955)/
The Movie Name (1955).mkv
The Movie Name (1955).srt
The movie (year) is important since there are so many remakes.
and folder is important to add all the additional files you may want.
Should check out the support pages on how to name your media, saves a lot of trouble if you set it up correctly from the start.
I am getting a few movies showing twice. For example the movie “2 Guns”, I verified the movie folder I am pointing the library at has one folder named “2 Guns (2013)” and it contains only one file “2 Guns.mp4”. Yet I have 2 ‘dvd covers’ showing for 2 Guns, the first says “1 movie” under it, the second says “2013” under it. Clicking the ‘1 movie’ only shows the cover art, and clicking the ‘2013’ shows all the movie information as expected. Any idea what is causing this and how to fix? My original issue has been resolved, thanks.
I understand about the benefit of setting the file structure right from the start - however I am not just starting my collection. I have used the format Movie/movie name (year)/movie name.xxx for several years. So I ‘stumbled’ on pretty close to what Plex uses. If I had 100 movies I would probably go ahead and edit them, but I have thousands so renaming them all is not practical.
Yup, sorry, the comment about not just starting was a reply to the other person that answered, not to you.
Cool, I will eventually run into wanting collections, and it seems the auto feature is marking some single movies as a collection. So deleting the collection tag should fix the duplicate issue.
