Naming problem when scanning for new movies

Recently, when I scan for new movies, they initially appear correctly such as “The Man Who Knew Too Much”. However, they quickly change to match the old filenames from when I first downloaded the movie. For instance, it would change to “The.Man.Who.Knew.Too.Much.1956.1080p”.

I then have to manually rename them. I use a licensed version of Filebot to rename the files in “Title (year) resolution sound format and channels” format, and it looks perfect for the file folder and file name after that.

It looks like Plex is using something else to get the name after it initially has the correct version.

What am I doing wrong? This didn’t happen a couple of months ago, and I’ve been using Plex for many years without this issue.

Thanks.

Another method:
Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

If your movie library is already using ‘Plex Movie’ for Scanner and Agent, disable the checkbox “Prefer local metadata”.

After doing one of the above, “Refresh Metadata”.
