Movie wall or search by genre?

I have Plex running on firesticks in my home. Is there a way to show the movies as a “movie wall” with posters shown in a grid? I know you can scroll back and forth in a line but it would be nice to have a faster navigation method.

Is it also possible to search for SciFi films etc? I can see an option for a folder view but not genre. I’m sure this must be available somewhere but I just couldn’t find it.

Another nice option would be to search for media of a certain length ie I’m going to beg in an hour and a half - is there something I can watch that’s roughly that length?

Many thanks

when you enter the actual library, you’ll have all the movies displayed in a grid/wall. The “hubs” showing movies by different categorizations in a single line (e.g. Last Added, Last Released, On Deck…) are part of the homepage or media discovery section.

When you’re in an individual library, there’s a series of dropdowns on the top of the window. By default the top-left corner should read “All Movies By Title”:

  • All -> allows you to filter the library, e.g. by Decade, Year, Content Rating, Critic/User Rating, Director, Actors… and also by Genre
  • Movies -> allows to switch the “view” to different options, e.g. the “raw movies” (default), collection or folder views
  • By Title -> allows to define the sort order, e.g. by title, release date, rating, duration…

This option is pretty much the same as within Plex Web (https://app.plex.tv/desktop).

Thanks for the quick response. What you’re saying sounds exactly like what I’m after BUT that’s not what I’m seeing on screen.

My default screen shows DISCOVER and then Films, News, Podcasts, Tidal and Web shows. If I go into Films then I just get the one line line containing films. I don’t have an option to pick a library. I’m using an amazon firstick as the plex player. My media is on a separate NAS. I’m a plex pass user.

I guess I’m doing something stupid but I just don’t see these options.

I don’t have an Amazon Firestick at hand but have checked this with the Plex for Android client on my Sony TV.

Start Page

When opening the app there’s the top navigation (magnifying glass icon to access search and the server name/selection on the left, user name/picture, time [if enabled in the settings] and Plex icon on the right) and the main content (e.g. the horizontal set of library buttons with the Header „Discover“).

You should be able to access the discovery section of each library by clicking on those buttons.

Library Discovery Page

The navigation at the top of the page should now look slightly different (house icon to return to the home page and search button on the left, time and Plex icon on the right).

In the main content there’s different sections:

  • Browse with a number of buttons (e.g. „Movies“ and „Folder View“ for a movie type library)
  • various hub areas such as last added, last released

I suppose this is where you’re stuck.

By clicking on „Movies“ in the Browse section you’ll get to the full-fledged library view. For other media types the Browsesection could show different buttons such as „Shows“ (for tv shows) or „Artists“/„Albums“ (for music).

Library View

This is what you’re looking for.
Navigation should remain unchanged from the previous view, but now you have your poster wall. Between the two you’ll find the buttons for filtering (All), changing the view (Movies) and sorting (By Title) — those buttons might look like a piece of text until you navigate up from the poster wall).

I suppose this is where 3 screenshots might be helpful. If you keep having trouble I’ll try to get some
