Movies are being deleted

Server Version: 1.18.4.2171
Version: 4.18.1

After the last Plex update all of my content disappeared - movies, TV shows and music. Not great. I have taken ages re-populating the libraries but cannot get beyond 5 movies. I cannot upload them all for some reason, so have been adding one at a time - total waste of time (Movies > Manage Library > Edit> Add folders…). After adding about five movies the ‘Advanced’ button becomes greyed out. If I try and add another movie it will start to add it to the library, but a red trash can appears over all of the other movies. As the new movie is added the others vanish.
I am a Plex Pass member but have had nothing but problems for the last 12 months and wondering why I even bother. It is so unreliable and each update scores up the libraries.

I access the site from a MacBook Pro running OS 10.11.6. All media files are stored on a NAS - Drobo 5N2. The Plex app is Version 1.18.4.2171. I know there is an update for the Drobo, but I cannot fathom how to manually update as the file appears to be a PC file of some sort. Also, I am reluctant to update until I know what the hell is going on! Any ideas?

Are you adding the folder for EACH movie to the Plex library? If so, that may be causing your problems. You should just add the parent folder that contains the individual movie folders & files.

Drobo\Movies <- Add THIS folder to your Plex library
--------Deadwood The Movie (2019) <- Folder
---------------Deadwood the Movie (2019).mkv
--------Weekend at Bernie’s (1989) <- Folder
---------------Weekend at Bernie’s (1989).mkv

When Plex scans the Drobo\Movies folder it will add the enclosed movies to the library. This way all you have to do to add a movie to Plex is put it in the Movies folder on the Drobo. Try that and see if it helps.

Hello and thank you for your speedy post! I will try this again. When I tried it after the update removed the contents, the activity button showed actions were taking place but after an hour or so there was still no content and no activity. I tried this several times without success but will give it another try now and post an update later.
Thank you again for the feedback.

Hello again CWallace

Thanks again for the help and for encouraging me to retry adding the complete folder as, after previous failures, I had ruled this out. I am not sure what has changed, but this was successful - bizarrely my music and tv folders were no problem and were added a week or so ago.

I wasn’t sure if it would help, but I created a new movie folder on the NAS with probably around half of the original folder’s content. This got added to Plex easily… Since then I have been adding the remaining films to the new movie folder and getting Plex to scan the folder to update the content. So far so good!

Hopefully it all settled for now, so big thank you!

Great! Glad to hear you’ve got it working. Plex can be a fun addition once it’s up and running!

Yes, I have been a Plex Pass user for some time now and found it to be great - most of the time. Although I make use of a lot of technology these days, some things are a lot easier to work with than others, and Plex seems to come with more than its fair share of difficulties and problems.

Thankfully there are forums and people like you to help the tech novices like myself!

Here we go again! After three days Plex has lost the connection to my NAS (Drobo 5N2). Everything else can see it but Plex doesn’t. I keep reading about how unreliable it is and have tried to get on with it but over the last few years it just seems so have got so flaky there seems little point in trying to stick with it. I am no tech expert but don’t have any problems with other kit, just Plex. Every update brings another few wasted days trying to resolve the problems - what is with the people behind this? Are they happy to run it into the ground? I have lost patience and need to look at one of the alternatives out there that surely can’t do a worse job.
