Still getting used to the new GUI and the “Movies & TV” (aka app.plex.tv) web streaming feature. This last is at least a partial replacement for the loss of plugins. What am I supposed to call this to distinguish from streaming from the local server, or remote streaming when you are away from home? I have been able to use “Movies & TV” on computers in my network, but only if I browse to app.plex.tv. “Movies & TV” does not appear on PMP, or the Plex web GUI for my local server, or the Plex app for my LG 4K smart TV. Is this by intent?
My TV is an LG 43UH6100 (WebOS 3.3, Plex app 4.19.1). The Plex app is the latest in the LG content store. “Movies & TV” does not appear on the menu. If I instead surf the LG browser to app.plex.tv, I can see “Movies & TV”, and if I click it I get the menu thumbnails of those movies just like I would on a PC, but none of them will play. I always get “Streaming content not supported”. What is the issue?
The new video on demand component is not available on all platforms (yet).
As for Plex Web it requires a version that’s as of today only available in the hosted version (app.plex.tv/desktop) but has not yet arrived in the version installed with your Plex Media Server (this one is always some versions behind and considered more stable) – required version is 4.14 or newer; locally installed you should currently find 4.12.3.
As for LG smart TVs, the new video on demand requires a webOS 4.0 or newer as an underlying operating system… it’s not supported on your webOS 3.3 TV.
