Hi,
The issue for me is that PLEX will try and update metadata on access of any item in my movie folder if it has not been refreshed for a certain period (perhaps 24 hrs).
I have no obvious errors in the log files. I have all my movie files under one folder. I understand that this is not optimal.
This is causing timeouts on the client side.
Is there way to disable these metadata updates for a library unless executed via a scheduled task or manually.
It doesn’t update metadata, but is mainly looking for changes in the external assets like subtitles.
The trigger for this is a change in the folder, not an amount of time passed.
You can avoid this usually by storing your movies as recommended, with each movie in its own dedicated subfolder.
And prevent other software from changing this folder, either its contents or the “changed” timestamp.
Thanks for the reply. I have disabled auto scanning of the library under settings. I have been able to verify that the library does not auto update when I transfer an item to the file system. I have also disabled looking for localized assets. I have to initiate a manual scan to refresh metadata.
However whenever I try and access an item from the library using the web client it will refresh metadata automatically unless metadata has been updated by Plex for the item within a certain period of time (say 24 hrs).
Needless to say. I would like Plex to stop updating metadata in this manner.
