Sometimes my Plex server behaves like Harry Houdini. Movies disappear just like that. Today I lost 293 Western Movies in 10 seconds. Luckily not from my computer, but it is still a lot of work to get them back with adding tags one by one.
How does it occur?
Only when I add 1 or more movies.
I have one big library devided into several collections which get movies depending on their tags. Not always, but sometimes when I add 1 or more new movies a part of the other movies in the complete library suddenly get the icon of a trash can on them and after that they vanish one by one. As said, they stay on my local computer but on the Plex server they’re gone and I have to start all over again. Pretty annoying when you have a collection of 800+ movies and yes most of them are copies of my legal collection of DVD’s and Blurays.
Who had this same issue and found a solution?
Where are the media files stored?
On external hard drives perhaps?
Or on a NAS which does spin down its drives when idle?
Either way, disable “Empty trash automatically”.
They are stored on an external hard drive. This went okay for three years, but since a couple of months I am having this weirde issue. It happened already more than ten times.
Thanks for your advice.
After disabling trash automatically the movies don’t disappear just like that but the trash icon is still visible and won’t go away. Even after rebooting the system they’re still there. Additionally I can no long remove seperate movies from the library. All is blocked. I can play all movies though.
