Moving files from PMS folder to NAS folder(same library)

Looking for some advice…

current setup:

  • PMS running on PC
  • older NAS (no PMS support) being brought online for file storage
  • NAS is mapped to PC.
  • ‘movie’ and ‘tv’ have (seperate) folders on both host and nas.

Intent is to put older less played media on the NAS to maintain access, but not have it on the main machine to free up space for other things.

If I move file(s) from the host TV folder to the NAS TV folder, will plex recognize, remap and keep play history? Or, do I need to do the whole copy to two locations, scan, wait for the double file location to be identified as a second version then delete the original?

Thoughts?

In theory, if you make sure emptying trash is turned off, you should be able to do it without the temporary duplicates. In my experience though, it’s quicker/more accurate to do the duplicate scan if you have the room to do it.

Unfortunately, that’s what I thought the answer would be. Was there was something I didn’t know / think about. Thanks @CapMarkoRamius .
