Moving files from Windows PMS to unraid docker Plex - metadata posters missing for certain movies

Server Version#: 4.141.0 both

Hello fellow Media server enthusiasts.

I am currently moving from storage/app on an older Windows server to new unRaid storage with official Plex in a docker container.

As those systems are a bit different and I am linux beginner Ive decided just to set the new instance the same as the old, copy over the data, and call it a day.

However, there seem to be certain movies in my library that stubbornly resist my attempts to get the metadata movie posters for them. In attached pictures you can see side-by-side of some of the affected movies. The library has the language setting “Czech” as that is the language of those movies, even tho the country of origin can be different. If it is different, they are dubbed. (One of the affected movies is czech tho)
There are about 20 files that have issues where I “Match” the movie to its correct name/year but I get no posters. I have tried to renaming source files to a more “Friendlier” format although it wasn’t an issue on the older server and it actually fixed the fetch for like 4 of them, but the rest is still in this strange state. For those I have tried few renaming, rescaning library files, also modifying metadata of the source files themselves.

Could I use the metadata stored on the current server to “teach” the new one what is missing?

Or is there some trick to get the new one to actually get the pictures when it could do it before?

Many thanks for any ideas.

Often if Plex is pulls in all metadata except for the poster, it’s because they got a takedown request for the artwork and had to remove it (e.g. Once Upon a Time in the West metadata - #12 by dane22). It looks like that’s what’s happening with the movies you highlighted, since if you look at their entries on watch.plex.tv, the poster is missing there as well:

They’re available on your old system because Plex was able to grab the poster before the takedown request. You could use something like WebTools-NG (via ExportTools) or Tautulli’s export feature to export the posters and copy them over to your new system, but depending on how many movies are missing posters, it might be easier to just find one somewhere else (e.g. from TMDB) and add it manually.

Ah, I see. I had those movies for a very long time, same with Plex.

So far it seems it is only my heroes Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movies that got hit by those takedown so I will get them manually from TMDB.

Thank you kindly

Movie posters by a certain Italian artist which were painted during the 70s and 80s originally, are among those which are frequently affected by those takedown orders.
Said artist was exceptionally good at this craft, I’d say.
