Recently (like maybe the last 3 weeks) I’ve noticed random movie posters that were there initially have been disappearing. All other metadata will remain, but posters and backgrounds will just vanish. This is not all movies, newly added movies are fine. It appears to be mostly older movie (1950s is where I’ve noticed the most). I’ll try and look via the “Edit” screen to see if I can pull a poster, but none appear (Screenshot #1 below) even though themoviedb and imdb both have multiple posters listed. I’ll then try and “Fix Match” and notice that the record to match against for that movie doesn’t have a poster, but others do (Screenshot #2 below). I’ve tried the Plex Dance (remove the file, scan library, optimize library, clean bundles, empty trash, clear cache in %localappdata%, close/reopen plex, readd movie file) but that didn’t work. This appears to only be happening with movies, not TV shows, as I’ve also visited Plex’s support page on why images wouldn’t be loading. I haven’t made any changes to any agents or firewalls in literal years. Anybody have any guesses on what’s going on here?
This most likely means plex has been forced to remove artwork via a take down request which legally required plex to remove the artwork. See Metadata poster for My Fair Lady not posting - #4 by ChuckPa for details as many movies have such problems.
Dang what the heck…yea looking through that post that sounds a lot like what I’m seeing. Why the take down order? Because the owners see Plex as having stolen media?

Yeap. I’d recommend using local assets alongside your media (poster.jpg and/or fanart.jpg). The choose an image from editing within the plex UI can be a bit buggy and not something I’d personally recommend.
I’m having a similar problem for a different movie “Trapeze (1956)”. IMDB and TMDB both have quite a few posters, but “Plex Movie” shows NO posters. I looked at "https://watch.plex.tv/movie/trapeze” but don’t see any mention of any notice and takedown AND no posters show there either, so…
(1) Is there any way to tell Plex (having changed to the new agents) to use IMDB or TMDB for posters? Plex Movie’s metadata is correct. I’ve tried adding the IMDB info to the file name AND also tried using it in the fix-match search… NO JOY.
(2) IF it’s a notice-and-take-down (strange, only for Plex and not IMDB nor TMDB), is there a way to find that info for any given movie???
