I’m having trouble migrating movie files from one folder to another (both associated with the same library); whatever I do, all movies I had to match manually appears in my library as recently added unmatched files. Is there a way that Plex will understand that the exactly same file was previously matched or will I have to rematch all those movies? I already tried to copy, move, with the server on and off, always without success…
hey, guys, no one?
You need to copy the files to a new folder. add that that new folder to library then scan it. After done scanning and it should show you have two of everything ( there will be a blue #2 on every movie and tv episode). remove the original folder from library then scan again
already done that - problem is all itens I had to manually match appears as unmatched (a version matched at the old folder, a unmatched one at the new folder)
Probably a different agent . Your library may have been set up to use one agent, but at some point in time you changed the default agent, For example, originally was “The Movie DB” and has been changed to “Plex Movie”
I run into that problem when I upgrade media from SD to HD. My movies library was originally set to “The Movie Database” but it is now “Plex Movie” I don’t recall if that was changed by me, or a change in a server upgrade. In any event, it always requires a “Fix Match” and specifically select the other agent. Don’t know if there’s a better way in a mass movement like this.
I know I have done this before, not sure of the procedure, but I think it was this.
Disable “Empty Trash Automatically”: — VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Shut down the Plex Server
Move the files to the new folder/directory
Restart Plex Server.
Rescan Library
It will show all of the old media with a trash can overlay.
Add the new folder to the library.
Rescan the library
It should find those files now, and they should still be matched, because Plex assigns them a magical mystery code number. (don’t know the technical name)
You should now be able to remove the old folder/directory.
Maybe @BigWheel can confirm this before you go ahead and try .
it should work but I think you were on to something when you said it may not be same agent as when originally scanned. if library agent is different i could see this happening. or if secondary agents were rearranged.
The GUID shows the main agent used when originally scanned which you can see in the xml for an item. I have two copies of Logan I intentionally wanted separate (one is b&w version) with different main agents ( i used Fix match on one and purposely choose a different agent than main library default)
one is guid="com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt3315342?lang=en"
the other is guid="com.plexapp.agents.themoviedb://263115?lang=en"
so check if the second scanned items that have different posters are using same agent
As I said, I think that’s what I did, and it worked perfectly. It was some time ago, and maybe beginner’s luck. @PCmarcondes has also mentioned he has matched a lot of things manually. If that meant editing the information, rather than using an alternative agent to match, I don’t know how that would affect the procedure, since the file is still unmatched as far as Plex is concerned but with “locked” entries in the various fields.
I do that all the time too, for colorized and B&W, theatrical and directors cut, etc.
I have done this exact process and it resulted in all my movies getting re-added, losing all customizations I had done to the library:
- Duplicate the movies to the new folder
- Add new folder to Plex movie library
- Let Plex scan new folder
- Confirm that all movies have a 2 in top corner signifying 2 copies of the movie
- Remove movies from old folder
- Let Plex do a scan
- All movies have disappeared from my library
- Force a rescan of the library
- All movies now show up again but it is as if it was a brand new scan. All previously selected covers, categories, sorting adjustments, sharing settings are all gone
