I’m having trouble with moving Movies from one location to another. This has only started happening very recently and I’m confused and annoyed because it used to work so well. It used to be that when I moved a bunch of movies from one drive to another plex would recognize that I had the same movies on 2 different drives. It would still only show 1 file in the server. But if you click on get info you can see the multiple locations or versions i.e. blu-ray or dvd. This was amazing as I could easily consolidate drives and move files around as needed without messing up my watched and unwatched status. Also it wouldn’t add them to my recently added as they’d already been added a long time ago I was just moving them around. Well very recently its been making completely separate entries per location. Which is super annoying because my recently added ends up being my recently moved. Then I have to go through and mark the ones I’ve already watched again. Is anyone running into this? I’ve been a plex pass member for a while. I LOVE Plex. I wish it would work the way it was. So convenient. Like before I could’ve moved my whole collection onto a completely different drive and nothing would have visibly changed to the home screen or status. Now that would be a chore. Any tips? thanks guys!

Did you change the default metadata agent of your library, before this started?
e.g. from “Plex Movie” to “TheMovieDatabase” or vice versa?
Thats possible. I had a terrible time getting plex to recognize a show and I was trying all kinds of weird stuff. If thats what caused it I’m not sure how to get it back to normal. I’ll start messing with the defaults but theres a ton of options in there. Hopefully thats it. Still haven’t found an option that fixes it yet.
Ok it looks like thats what happened. But how to I change the default. my entire library is under Plex Movie. I can manually go in and tell it to search Plex Movie but it doesn’t change the default. I went into the server settings and changed the Agent to Plex Movies but that doesn’t seem to be sticking either. Any Thoughts?
The default agent for a library is changed by editing this library, then going to the ‘Advanced’ tab.
Once a movie (or a tv show) has been matched with a particular agent, it stays on it.
You cannot change the agent for existing items by editing the library.
This is only possible by performing ‘Fix Match’. (or by Plex Dance’ing the item)
That Worked. Weird because I wouldn’t have changed it from there. I’ve never opened those settings up. Just from the settings tab on plex. Thanks for the info!
