I’m adding metadata to my personal mp4 files and want the information in Plex to be as complete as possible. Has anyone compiled a list of all the metatdata tags Plex will read from an MP4 file?
No replies, so I’m guessing the answer is no list exists.
Here is what I’ve been able to find through trial and error. Hopefully this helps others trying to tag their own mp4 files…
Plex Field, Metadata name, Notes
Title, Title
Summary, Synopsis
Genre, Genre, Plex will create a genre tag for each comma separated value in the text. eg: Genre = “Genre1, Genre2, etc.”
Release Date, Date, Format must be mm-dd-yyyy
Cast, Artist, Plex will create a cast member for each comma separated value in the text
Studio, Copyright
Collection, Album, Plex will auto create collections of videos with the same album name
I believe if you have multiple Genre tags (@gen = “Action” and @gen = “Comedy” - multiple tags of the same field is how you’re supposed to do multi-valued tags in the MP4 specs), Plex will also correctly split them.
I can tell you that you use the PODCASTDESC field for the synopsis in mp3tag.
You may have to open the advanced tags modal to get access to this field.
