I’ve discovered a weird issue as of late and have confirmed this on at least iOS. If a video file has multiple audio tracks in it (when you rip a bluray it generally has English, French, Spanish etc) and you download it to your iOS device and go to play it back, it will only ever have 1 audio option.
If the default audio track is say French and in your Plex settings you say “please auto select. English for subtitles and audio track if available”, downloading it to your device will only ever download the file with French in it. There’s no option to select a different audio track, just the subtitles.
That will happen if the file was transcoded before downloading. A transcoded download can only contain 1 of each track. If the file is direct playable, then it will download the file as-is including all tracks.
I have direct play and original video format enabled on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and iOS 16.1. The video files tend to be in the mkv container, h.264 and all audio tracks are EAC3 5.1
That doesn’t guarantee that the video was actually downloaded as direct play. Please reproduce the download and provide logs so I can check what is going on.
I need the ios logs from the app and the server logs from your PMS. Start Downloading a file then grab both sets of logs. You don’t need to wait for it to finish.
