Multi-Lineup: Record same show episode twice with different tuners & zip codes? (as a backup)

I currently have 2 tuners, each with their own zip code lineup, thanks to the new feature. I deleted my old ones and created these from scratch today.

I would like to record the same show & episode on both tuners (I can even put them in different libraries if needed).

I am doing this so I have backup in case one tuner fails for some reason (goes offline, bad signal, carrier decides to bump the show, etc.)

Right now using Jeopardy as an example, I have my recording options set to Any for “Limit to Channel” and “Limit to Airing Time”.

If you look at the Guide, both airings of the same episode at different times show the red record icons.

Yet in the DVR schedule, it only shows one of the airings will be recorded, not both. It always seems to choose the earlier airing.

Is there any way to get Plex to record both instances of the same episode?

Channel number/Name:

It’s because of this. That means to only record the airing that matches the time of the specific guide listing you clicked on to generate that recording schedule.

However, it is not possible to record the same episode twice, so even changing the above won’t help. This is not going to be possible.

Here is the part that doesn’t make sense.

I have 2 tuners with 2 EPGs. Jeopardy comes on at 7pm on one, and 7:30pm on the other.

I clicked on the 7:30pm airing and setup my recording there. Yet Plex always records the earlier 7pm airing instead.

Oh sorry. When using that setting, you need to specify which airing time to use. It’s not based on which listing you use to crate the recording.

If you have it set to any, which is the default, it will record the first one. It will only then records the second one if the first one fails or if the second one has a higher quality and you’ve enable that setting.

As mentioned, there isn’t a way to force Plex to record and keep both.

OK, thanks for the info.

I ended up using another instance of Plex server on my NAS to record the second backup show copy, and that should do the trick.

with two tuners if one recording fails it should then record the next instance. Also, when adding tuners, always add the primary tuner last as this is the one it will go to first if it has multiple tuners with the same channels.
