Multipart episode not recognised despite proper naming

So i have this TV show stargate sg-1. The first episode is a 2 parter (children of the gods) in a single file and has been named as such in compliance with the naming convention

Stargate SG-1 - S01E01-E02 - Children of the Gods.mp4 however plex refuses to reconize it as such

In the series dashboard. The first episode is listed twice (as seperate thumbnails). This causes problems down the line. The title for episode 3 is shown on thumbnail 2, the title for episode 4 is shown on thumbnail 3 etc…

Ultimately thumbnail 2 needs to be removed and the titles need to be “pushed forward” 1 episode. The thumbnails are correct per episode and so are the filenames but the titles are 1 behind

As you can see on the left side, episode 3 is properly named “The Enemy within”, the thumbnail matches but plex seems to think its “emancipation” which is episode 4

Edit if i change the filename from Stargate SG-1 - S01E01-E02 - Children of the Gods.mp4 to Stargate SG-1 - S01E01&E02 - Children of the Gods.mp4, in violation of https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/ then the duplicate thumbnail vanishes but the 2nd thumbnail is still using the wrong title.

My Agent for TV show is set with “Local Media Assets (TV)” in the top position for both “personal media shows” and “TheTVDB”.

Please assist!!

Either you have incorrect ‘Title’ meta tags within your mp4 files,
or you have (incorrectly) told Plex to use the ‘DVD Order’.
Or maybe even both.

To rectify the first, Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Afterwards, “Refresh Metadata” of the whole show.

To change the latter, edit the tv show within Plex (at its top level).
On the ‘Advanced’ tab set “Epsiode ordering” to “Airing order”.
Then “Refresh Metadata”

Your files are following the “Aired” Order.
