I have a few albums of custom/bootleg video game soundtracks that have multiple discs. I recall them looking fine when I first added them to my library, but I recently noticed that many of them have had the discs all mixed together. For example, the album starts with Disc 5 and there are 5 Track 1s all with the same title and artist (despite being different songs and tagged differently).
Looking at the metadata with Mp3Tag shows everything looks correct regarding disc number, title, and artist.
Does anyone know how/why this happened or how I can get it back to normal?
Is it best to just remove the albums and try adding them again? Any tips for how to avoid something like this happening again?
Thank you for your assistance.
Here is one. Hopefully I am posting this clearly. And hopefully there is a clue here?
I am not sure which parts show track number and disc number, but as you can see, the meta data indicates this is “Title [from Batman Returns NES]” but the filename is “2-01 Title [from Batman- Return of the Joker NES]”
This shows up as disc 1, track 1, but should actually be disc 2, track 1.
Hm, this is showing that the artist hasn’t been updated yet to the new system.
Did you intentionally set the agent of this library to ‘last.fm’?
Verify that the line ‘Local Media Assets’ is in the top position under
Settings - Server - Agents - Albums
If you want to use the new music code, make sure that both Scanner and Agent are set to “Plex Music”.
Then ‘Refresh Metadata’ for the whole Album Artist. In your case, this would be
“Nintendo Soundtrack” file="/disks/6CE8F6B0E8F677A2/Game Music/Nintendo Soundtrack/Batman The Video Game-Returns Music Collection [MP3]/2-01 Title [from Batman- Return of the Joker NES].mp3
Thanks.
No, it being set to last.fm was not intentional. I found the setting to make sure Local Media Assets was at the top, but where can I find the settings for Scanner and Agent?
Is using the new music code going to be beneficial in this situation?
Thank you.
Yes, at least the new code is reading the disc meta tags correctly.
But it requires you to discipline yourself and keep a strict folder and meta tag regime.
Using your file from above again, you need to tag all files in this album with Nintendo Soundtrack = ‘Album Artist’ Batman The Video Game-Returns Music Collection = ‘Album Title’
And you better make sure that all files within the folder ‘Nintendo Soundtrack’ have only this one ‘Album Artist’ tagged, or it will be a mess.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of those settings. I prefer to have it set to use the metadata I set up myself.
However, this did not seem to fix the albums that are messed up.
I am planning on rebuilding this library anyway, so I will make sure the settings are correct from the beginning and hopefully I will have better luck this time.
Thank you for your assistance.
You need to “convince” Plex to transfer these to the new code. As a last resort, perform the Plex Dance “light” (step 4 can be omitted) with all albums under this “artist”.
Ah, yes. The Plex Dance.
That seemed to have done the trick. It is still re-scanning everything, but the ones that have loaded up look to be correct now.
Thanks for the help sorting this out.
