Multiple Editions of Same Movie, i.e. Avatar

Server Version#: Version 4.138.0
Player Version#: Plex HTPC Version 1.67.1.233

Hello all

I am trying to sort some things out after a hiatus due to Health Issues.

I have the Avatar Movies from 2009, including the Theatrical, Special and Collectors Editions which I have Added to the Movies Library in a Collection.

Everything is working except that I have Three Movies showing whereas I would like the Theatrical Edition to Show and then be able to Select another Edition if needed.

I have Merged the Avatar Movies into the Theatrical Edition so that only the Theatrical Edition is showing, so far so Good.

When I go to Play the Movie, the Theatrical Edition Plays without issue, however, if I go to the More Option to Select the wanted Version then all Three Movies show, however, only the Bitrate, Resolution etc. show, not the Movie Names which makes selecting the wanted Version difficult.

Have I done the above correctly and if not, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

This approach will probably cause more issues than it solves, IMHO.

This is not like Editions currently work in Plex. https://support.plex.tv/articles/multiple-editions/
You will see the posters of all editions side by side. However, on the preplay page of a movie, the other editions of that movie are listed.

If you have already added the three different posters into a collection, you can set the library view mode so that only collection posters are shown, but not their individual members.
Edit the library, Advanced tab and set Collections to “Hide items which are in collections”.
This setting can be overridden on a by-collection basis, by editing the properties of the collection itself.

Hello

Thanks for the Reply.

For now, I have re-done the Avatar Collection so that each Movie, Theatrical, Special and Collectors Edition each have their own Poster within the Collection.

Do you happen to know if the way Plex handles Multiple Editions is being worked on, or will be worked on in the future?

The Bones are there, they just need Fleshing out.

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Sorry, I cannot tell any future plans. I only know that it’s a known critique with the current implementation.

Hello

Thanks for the Reply.

Knowing that it is a Known Critique is Good enough for now.

Thanks

Kevin
