Multiple epg sources, for those with multiple tuners

It is a step in the right direction, but still missed the mark. It is possible to have more than one ABC in a given area, it works for the basics, such as prime time where every ABC channel shows the same show, but not for the non standard shows like news, sports, etc.

It would be nice to either have an option to merge or not merge individual channels from each tuners together., or at least the option to rename Live TV & DVR.

Why do you think the EPG won’t automatically merge any channel using the same guide listing?

The main thing that jumped out to me, was that it might not let you add multiple EPGs to a single tuner device. Lon’s video doesn’t make it clear. So for people sitting between marketing regions they may have to get an extra tuner box to bring in the second EPG, in order to give the first tuner access to it.

Perhaps Plex already thought of that, and it won’t be a problem, but I guess we’ll see.

I already tried it, the web server portion of this has been released, if you go to www.plex.tv and launch it there and manage your server, you can import several tuners, but they all get grouped together without the option to changing the lineup.

The new release tonight also updated the web server to the version with this new feature set in it.

I just tried it, but I can’t find a way to provide an xmltv listing for a tuner. I have an HDHomerun but I wanted to add dizqueTV to my server, which requires importing in an xmltv listing.

When you are looking at the DVR setup, right below the lineup do you have a + to add another listing?

I don’t have an xml to try plus the patch notes make it sound like you can use provided listings or XML but not both.

So it’s here and I was able to do it. My setup is:

HD HomeRun Connect (Local TV)
Locast Tuner - Chicago
Locast Tuner - Atlanta

It works perfectly pulling the respective guides for each. Where the issue lies is where the channel number is the same. For example, channel 5.1 is NBC on the HD Homerun, Fox on Locast-Atlanta, and NBC on Locast-Atlanta. When looking at the guide, it doesn’t allow you to watch the Fox from the Atlanta tuner because it meshes all of these together into one channel. Is there a fix to this?

Note that the reason for the tuners are 1) My local signal is not always reliable on the HD HomeRun and 2) I can get live out of market sports games on local stations. I have the ability to add even more Locast tuners from other markets around the country so if I can figure this piece out, I’ll be in business.

While it’s a step in the right direction, I would still like to have this latest update to LiveTV/DVR also include the ability to add external XMLTV source combined with the Plex EPG source with dummy EPG ability for stations without a guide.

That is the same issue I am running into. I failed back to the old system where you can have multiple tuners independent of each other. Hopefully they will figure a way to manage what goes into the tuner pool and what tuners you can exclude.

Wait you could have multiple tuners and different configs? Or maybe I knew that? and the zip code had to be the same?

See i need multiple tuners with different zip codes

@DaveBinM Is there a fix for this? I have 3 tuners – they are pulling the right guides from their respective locations (ie. Local, Chicago, Atlanta) however, for example, Channel 5.1 is NBC on the local tuner, Fox on the Atlanta tuner, and NBC on the Chicago tuner.

How do I show the Atlanta station 5.1 separate from the Local NBC 5.1 channel? Is there a fix in the works?

How did you roll back?

Just open more than one browser or tab in your browser to your Plex server. Once you remove all your tuners, each browser session will be the wizard (and once the wizard starts it becomes independent of the other tabs), and using the wizard add each of your tuners (or set of tuners) to get independent EPGs in each of your browsers. I did that to get my two, each with their own EPG.

While this certainly works, I use my tuners on TV’s vs. browsers. Plex should have a way to address this given they give you the capability of pulling Guides from various locations. The software should realize a Channel 5.1 from one location is different and allow you to bifurcate between the two without doing this backdoor method of adding/removing tuners constantly.

@Hawkins I’ve also asked this question in a different section of the forum. I have not received any response. Dave is cool but he stays bombarded with questions. I’m going to tag the person that actually worked on this and see if we get a response. Hi @cire12 this seems to be a common issue, is there a fix in the works for this? Thank you!

@JasonsPlex Thanks… Looking forward to a response. It’s like we are 95% there and just need that last push

Yep, discovered the new release… since I used the multiple browser workaround to set this up originally, I had to delete all tuners and resetup to get working properly with new version.

I’m watching. I have to HomeRun Extend and Prime with the multiple browser workaround working. I just noticed the setup no longer supports this. The new interface looks interesting. I’m hoping to hear good things before I destroy my working workaround!

Except for the channel number problem, I like it. Also we need Channel numbers back in the initial setup when mapping. Other than that it works pretty well!

@JasonsPlex I see that you have Directv listed as a video source. What does your setup consist of for hardware and software for that?

Any update from Plex staff on mixing external EPG with Plex EPG?
