I have two hdhomerun units. I’m curious if they run independently or each other. In my area I have two different towers so my antenna doesn’t pick up what’s behind it. I’m thinking my second unit could have an antenna pointed the other way hence they would both have different content. How would this work out?
Are all of the channels you’re trying to receive available in your guide lineup?
If so, then you can do this, you’ll just need to only enable the channels each antenna can receive on the respective HDHR unit.
If the channels are not in the same linueup, then this won’t really work as you cannot add more than one EPG lineup in Plex.
I hope that made sense.
I believe you can run them independently, but you’ll have to use the same guide. You can’t mix cable and ota tuners for example, because they use different guides. I don’t think there’s any reason why you couldn’t use two antennas pointing in different directions as long as all of those channels are available in the guide for your area.
The only issue you’ll have is cross pollination if both antennas happen to pick up the same channel. You’ll want to make sure to disable the channel on the HomeRun with the weaker signal to avoid it being selected. As far as I know, there’s no other way to set priority selection between multiple tuners.
So if I disable channels per tuner then plex will choose the correct tuner as we select them from the guide? I’ll have to try this out. Have to get a second antenna and get up on the roof. If a tuner can reliably see the same station then it randomly picks one based on local use? If all 2 on 1 are used then it jumps to the next?
Correct!
Also correct.
