I have three versions of the movie Dune. However, when I watch one, the same progress shows for all three. If I watch ten minutes of one version, all three autoplay from the ten minute mark when opened. If I mark on as “unplayed”, all three are marked unplayed.
What do?
If you inspect the guid from the Plex XML info of all three movies, you’ll see that it contains identical info.
Which means for Plex all three files are the same movie.
I satisfying solution doesn’t exist. Merely a limited workaround:
You can use “Fix Match” to force the use of the other movie metadata agent (Plex Movie vs. TMDB) on one of the alternate versions.
However, for the third version there is no alternate agent available, except “Personal Media”, which requires you to supply all the metadata yourself.
Ok so the first part worked nicely. However, when I selected “personal media”, it still linked two using the same agent. I had to “unmatch” the third and now it’s working.

Make sure to match the “unmatched” to the Personal Media agent, or it will either lose your manually typed in metadata or will again become a duplicate of one of the other files.
