Hello,
So it’s kind of a complicated title but for example I have Star Wars ANH and Star Wars - Revisited ANH.
When I watch either one or the other, Plex shows progress for both of them.
They are listed as two separate items (in two different folders on the NAS) in the movie inventory, as opposed to two versions under a master Star Wars ANH item.
This is one of the few movies that I have two different versions for. I just tested another movie, Terminator 2. I have a Theatrical version and the Skynet version. Both are in different folders and they are presented as two different items in the inventory. Yet playing one indicates viewing progress on both titles.
Any suggestions?
This happens because the two files are considered as one and the same movie by Plex.
They are both ‘matched’ by the same metadata agent.
Your workaround would be to take one version and match it with the other metadata agent instead.
(or use the Personal Media agent, but then you’d have to supply all metadata yourself and won’t get any trailers or extras automatically)
You can determine which metadata agent was used to match them by inspecting the Plex XML info.
If the guid=" contains imdb then it was ‘Plex Movie’.
If it is themoviedb - well that explains itself.
You can change the used agent with the ‘Fix Match’ procedure.

Thank you sir!
Note - While this worked fine for ANH and ESB (other than having to reselect the poster art and the fanart), T2 had a problem where it combined the two! I rescanned and rescanned and T2 theatrical didn’t come up! WTF!? I was going into Filezilla to change it’s permissions to make it invisible, but as I was looking for it, I checked something in Plex and I noticed the Split Apart option for the Skynet version.
For whatever reason Plex combined the two T2 versions, but not the two versions of the two Star Wars movies, when I changed the agent. Once this bit of confusion was sorted out, everything went well.
