I just invested in a new Synology DS1019+ with 2x Ironwolf 10TB HDDs. After migrating all of my data to the new NAS, I installed the newest Plex version and started organizing my library.
Now, my library is organized. I have forwarded Port 32400 on my router. And for the most part, Plex works great! I do have a Plex Pass - however seemingly “randomly” I encounter issues… like I can’t access Plex’s dashboard at home using “192.168.1.X:32400” - the browser just hangs. Sometimes too, when I boot up a Plex client on a device (sometimes at home, sometimes remotely) - I get a message saying “The Server does not allow secure connections”.
What the heck is going on?? I did recently install OpenVPN on a Raspberry Pi4, and am routing all DNS traffic through that device (via Router configuration). Looking at the DSM Logs show nothing out of the ordinary…
Thanks for your help!
Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309-f5213a238
Player Version#: 1.6.3.1009-57cf57c8
Thanks chenks… what would be the best way to test this?
Should I manually set the LAN Settings on my NAS to use a static IP, and the router’s IP as the DNS setting? Or, should I remove the custom DNS configuration from the router…?
I tried both of the above - and I still hang when attempting to connect to “192.168.1.X:32400”… same thing if I use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as the DNS Servers
Understood! So after doing removing the pi from my network (shutting it down) and reverting my router’s DNS settings to ISP defaults, when visiting 192.168.1.X:32400 I now receive a “503 Service Unavailable” - which I was not getting before (it just hung on that webpage)
Yup, accessing DSM is no problem (it wasn’t ever an issue either while running the pi). I just confirmed that the “Plex Media Server” service is running from the Task Manager in DSM - and also noticed that there are a bunch of “Sleeping” PMS and Plex Script Host processes as well under the “Processes” tab
That totally makes sense - thank you! I restarted the Plex service on the DS1019+… and now I can connect. WTF?
But what scares me is this just happened overnight… did Plex stall out or something? I want to be able to trust that I can access this remotely (as well as friends and family) without having to remote into the NAS and restart the service every day.
