Multiple Streams of same live TV channel

I’m trying to decide if I want to go ahead with the Live TV stream and record option. My main purpose for using this would be to watch local sports with my family who is spread out across the nation. I haven’t been able to get a definitive answer through research however. My question is, do I need multiple tuners to stream the same show simultaneously to multiple users? I know you need multiple tuners to watch multiple shows on multiple platforms, but what about the same show?

No, but…

This is how it currently works. Client tunes a channel, the stream begins recording on the Plex Server, the Plex Server relays this to the client(s) that selected the channel. Streams range from 10 - 20 Mbps without transcoding so you would need times X of upstream internet bandwidth to go remote, to transcode on the fly would require fast CPU or HW. Timeshifting buffer is stable out to 30 minutes, your results may vary.

I have a dedicated PC with an i8600 processor and FiOS gigabit internet. So the multiple transcoding should be more than fine. Thanks!

I’ve only tested this on a local network and while the pieces are there I can’t say this meets the true intent of why the feature was added nor that the feature will always be there considering how picky local stations are getting about their sports rebroadcasting rights.

Has this been changed?

That’s fair enough. But even now you can stream just about anything sports if you go through Reddit. They are gonna have to figure out how to stop that more than anything else, and I just don’t see how they can. If it’s being broadcast, there’s no way to stop someone from rebroadcasting… That I know of.

He said family so I automatically assumed these where “Home” users under his main account. Friend accounts won’t work.

Oooooh ok. So it can’t be shared with other users.
