New to Plex Live TV

I am interested in this option and I have questions. Would be amazing if someone with experience could help.

  1. How many TVs can access live tv at once? Have multiple rooms accessing my library.
  2. How many different TVs can use DVR? Or am I missing the point of this.
  3. Can I watch live TV on my iOS app if out of town? (I’m out of town all the time)

Thanks in advance.

  1. Depends on how many tuners you have…
I have a 3 tuner hdhr box so I can watch on 2 TV’s and record one show at the same time or record 3 channels at once.

  2. Once a show is recorded all TV’s or clients can watch it. Not sure what your question really is.

  3. Yes but this depends on your internet speeds and performance of your Plex server and client support.
I watch live TV on my Android phone all the time.

I currently have 6 tuners (one HDHomerun Quattro 4 tuners and one HDHomerun Extend 2 tuners) So currently I can have 6 separate live channels at once. But if 2 people are watching the same show I still have 5 streams available. The # of available streams depends on recording schedules also.

With the latest server and Uno on Roku any Managed user has access to schedule a recording (if I get what your asking).

@nokdim answered that one in the best way. Works like a charm for me, I work out of state 6 days a week and use it all the time on lunch.

Thank you so much for the response.

My next and should be last question is how many tuners can I attach to an antenna? I see some antennas that allow more than one line for a TV. Do I need something like that to add tuners or does a splitter work?

The tuners we are talking about use one cable and the tuners are built into the one box.

I have one box with 3 built in tuners one cable running to it.

Forkboyink has 2 boxes with 6 total tuners he probably uses a splitter to get both boxes connected.

I don’t think there is a limit per say but you should only need 2 boxes max like forkboyink so one splitter.

Thank you two so much. This really helps me out.

I’m trying to get all of my family members to cut the cord by using my Plex library plus the options of Live TV for them. My PC is capable and I’m dipping my toes into this Live TV option.

Everyone loves to save money…while I have a reason to upgrade a few aspects of my rig!

Plex has grown over the years and live tv/dvr has been public for a while but it can be finicky at times so I’d suggest you start small with local devices and add user access slowly.

Correct!

To be honest what I did was use the cable box outside my house (local cable company box that brings the internet and used to bring the cable  ) used the existing cable to the attic (that they ran to split to a bedroom) to attach my antenna to, then chased the line to the mass box (used a piece of foil on one end and a multimeter on the other) they had installed for the house, used that line that came into my office and split it inside to my 2 boxes. If you can repurpose what you have already, it feels so much more enjoyable to cut the cord.
