I have tried a refresh of the metadata and that did not solve the issue. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. I don’t think the metadata is the issue, the movie information is correct. Unless Plex stores library information and location information as part of metadata.
More background. I have my 4K versions of movies in a separate library. This is so that I can keep remote viewers from trying to stream 4K content as my upload speed is not up to the task. I only care about my watched status on movies, I am totally fine wiping away all other data to fix this annoying issue. I haven’t found instructions on how to do that anywhere.
