Music Agent confusion

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486
Hi, I am a bit confused by which Agent is being used for my Music Library. Under Library settings (Advanced) I have Scanner set as Plex Music and Agent also set as Plex Music. Agent also has 2 other options ‘Personal Media Artists’ and ‘Last FM’, which I assume I am not using since Plex Music is selected
I have also selected Prefer local metadata, use embedded tags for Genres and Local files only for Album Art.

If I then look under the Agents setting for Artists or Albums there are 2 separate tabs with these other agent options namely ‘Personal Media Artists/Albums’ and ‘Last FM’.
Within each of these 2 tabs I have ticked Personal Media Artists/Albums and Local Media Assets (Artists or Albums). Under Last DM ‘LyricFind’ and ‘Last FM’ are also ticked.
Are these selections actually doing anything since I have not selected Personal Media Artists or Last FM in the main music library settings. So it doesn’t matter what items are ticked/not ticked in either of these 2 tabs. Is this correct?

The reason for asking is I want to try to use Fanart for Artist images, which only appears under Last FM and is not currently ticked. If I tick it and enter my personal API will it do anything since Last FM is not selected under Music Library. If I change the music library setting to Last FM presumably it will apply to Artists and Albums and could end up overwriting all my personal album art

Ignore this section of the settings. It is only pertaining to the old Python-based agents, which are deprecated.

You are using the new agent “Plex Music”. All settings related to this agent can be found directly in the properties of the library, on the “Advanced” tab.

I think Plex Music is also using fanart (among others). So you should be able to select it when editing albums and/or artists in Plex.

Never downgrade the agent from Plex Music to one of the older ones. It can mess up your library beyond repair and you’ll have to delete and recreate the whole library.

If you care much about proper artist and album art, you should acquire it as separate jpg or png files in high resolution. Then place these files directly beside your music.
Naming convention can be found here: [BUG] Plex isn't picking up artist images (folder.jpg) - #2 by OttoKerner

That way they are backed up together with the media (you do backups, don’t you?) and can be picked up automatically if you ever have to recreate the library for some reason.

Thanks
Yes I do backups now, previously I hadn’t and lost all my carefully selected Artist images when I had to uninstall and reinstall PMS (album cover art is embedded in music files to rescan picked these up again).

Re this part of your reply about using Fanart
“So you should be able to select it when editing albums and/or artists in Plex.”

Not sure what you mean by select it (ie Fanart) when editing albums or artists. Where is this option?

Thanks
G

You are not selecting an option named “fanart”, but rather the pictures themselves. Some of which might be provided by fanart.tv.

Ah Ok, that makes sense now. Thanks
