Music files in a NAS and PLEX Library

Hello. All mi music files are in a Synology NAS. The folder organization on the NAS is: music > flac > Groupname or artist name or Composername > Album name (Year+Albumname +Musicians/Orchestra) > Track name (theme or songname). Each theme or song name has its own picture of the album folder. An example could be: music > flac > Beatles, The > 1970-Let it be > 5-I’ve got a feeling. Another example could be: music > flac > Bach J.S. > 1981-Cello Suites 1-6-Mstislav Rostropovich > 1-Suite 1 1st tempo

I am a very new to PLEX but I am creating a PLEX Library. The problem is that PLEX when creating the library creates more folders than Groupname or artist name o Composername as I find repeated folders for the same Composer and/or folders named with the Orchestra name instead of the composer…

What sould I do to have a library much more closer to the organization I already have in my NAS? I mean to avoidcreating several folder corresponding to Mozart or a folder named Mstislav Rostropoch (corresponding to Cello suites from Bach as mentioned above).

Thank you in advancd

Plex essentially has two ways to identify your albums:

  1. By folder/filename structure - for this to work, the folder/filename structure must conform to Plex’s guidelines.

  2. Embedded metadata - for this to work, your embedded tags must be accurate. This How-To article can help. The symptoms you describe are commonly caused by incorrect/inconsistent tags, especially in the album title or album artist fields, so pay close attention to the How-To with regard to these tags.

Once Plex identifies the album, it will attempt to match it to the correct entry in the MusicBrainz database, which will allow retrieval of artist biographies, album reviews, concert info, lyrics, etc.

One thing you should be aware of: Plex has not implemented support for the Composer tag, as well as a few other tags which are essential for properly organizing classical music. My personal workaround for this problem is to keep my classical music in a separate library from everything else, and to modify the embedded tags improperly, to account for Plex’s deficiency (using the Composer as Album Artist, for example). This also means my classical music is in a separate folder on the hard drive.

Until Plex resolves this deficiency, having classical and other music in the same library is not practical, IMO. You may want to add your votes to one or both of these feature suggestions:
