Music Genre Tagging

In my music library, it was previous set to pull song genres from “Plex Music.” I just recently changed it to use “Embedded tags” because I’ve got good ID3 tagging on my music.

After making the change, my PMS scanned the Music library. It took a while because it’s a big library.

Afterwards, the albums still have genres that are clearly not pulled from the tags on the songs. I presume it’s pulling album genres from somewhere else…? Any suggestions how I get the albums to pull the genre from the songs?

This matters [to me] because the genres PMS is loading are absurdly over-specific. Rather than a couple “reasonable” divisions, I am getting all sorts of borderline absurd values. Some aren’t even describing the music genre, but rather the band composition (e.g. “female fronted metal”).

When you say “…my PMS scanned the Music library,” do you mean you ran “Scan Library Files,” or “Refresh Metadata?” It’s the Refresh Metadata" that should get the genre tags. Try it on one or two albums before doing the whole library to see.

I had done “Scan Library Files.” I just tried out “Refresh Metadata” for a handful, and it appears to solve my problem.

Tonight I’ll take a snapshot of the server and then refresh the entire library.
