A +1 for this to be implemented.
Same here. Would love to be able to use multi-room or even stereo pairing.
Just bought this 2nd Alex Dot to work as stereo pair, sad to discover its mono on the primary speaker for both “Tell plex to play some music” and the Sleep Sounds as well: “Play sounds of the rainforest”. Hope they fix it soon.
It is an amazon api limitation as @rjameson mentioned above.
Hi BigWheel…do you have any word from Amazon dev’s about when they make changes in the API so 3rd party dev’s can update? I would presume you have some inside track on what they may be releasing and when??
We don’t, sorry.
Listening to Plex on my stereo paired dots, where it’s only playing in the right dot. I could be wrong, but it is only playing the right channel from Plex - not mono.
If so, that’s even worse. Could deal with mono, but only hearing rhythm guitar and no lead for some songs? Definitely not ideal.
Another disappointed echo stereo Plex user. Just bought two new echos to play my plex library and UGH please fix!,
The other day I listened to Plex just letting Alexa shuffle my huge music library. It was amazing. Alexa (or Plex?) seemed to have the intelligence to find only the best songs. This was going through one Echo in the master bedroom, all day long. I thought, this would be great in stereo with 2 Echoes and the Echo sub. So the 2nd Echo (which has to be 2nd gen with a 2nd gen, or 3rd gen with a 3rd gen I found out, mix and match won’t work, almost purchased wrong but cancelled my Amazon order of a 3rd gen and a sub in time) got a 2nd gen match to my other Echo, and the Echo Sub ordered and all hooked up today - just now only to find out Plex goes only through the right channel. NO left, NO sub. Don’t even know if it’s a mono mix, haven’t checked yet. May just be the right channel as someone said. Not going to use Plex like that if that’s the case. At Christmas I was streaming music all over the house, and I thought in Plex, but maybe it was just Amazon Prime Unlimited, because you guys are saying no multi-room music either. I use the aux out of an Echo Dot to my receiver downstairs (more reliable than the Bluetooth connection) and an array of Echoes and Echo dots around the house. So I have great audio out of the big receiver downstairs, the rest of the house was mono fill in as you walk room to room. Good enough. But I was looking for a specific Plex player with two small wireless speakers and sub for bass upstairs in the master bedroom instead of one Echo. Not happening. Otherwise, it’s an OK set up though, because I just went from Amazon to Spotify to Pandora to iHeart to TuneIn without losing the 2.1 set up at all. It is so WEAK to then go over to the Plex server and have it go back to the one Echo. I said all that to say this - it’s UNACCEPTABLE. I’ll stick with the Echo stereo pair/sub set up because it’s still worth it without Plex, and I have a big stereo set up downstairs for critical Plex listening, or headphones for that matter, wired or wireless. But fingers crossed if this is an Amazon thing they will fix it. But do you know how many YouTube videos there are of people trying to hook up their TV set up, even if Amazon Fire TV, to this 2.1 set up? You also can’t do that. So if they do anything that will probably be first. I’m afraid they won’t do either but we’ll just have to keep these posts coming. Remember after a 3 month period with no posts the thread gets killed.
If this is an Amazon issue does any one know who we can go direct to Amazon as a group or individuals to ‘hound’ them for their fix of the API?
We cannot blame Plex guys for the limitation of Amazon and the more voices Amazon hear then maybe they will open up the option, rather than just Plex going to them asking for an update…
Just a thought…
I hope you all see this. With Coronavirus going on, I am still happy as I can be. It’s WORKING!!! IT SOUNDS AMAZING. Enable the PLEX skill on your Alexa stereo pairs with Echo Sub. Say, Alexa, PLEX. She’ll say, you can say things like… Watch a movie, or play some music. Say, play some music. She’ll say, playing your library radio on PLEX. Stereo, both channels plus echo sub. Flac files, mp3s, WOW! Now randomly playing my favorites in stereo with deep bass. The reason I bought the system is working not long after my other post. Try it if you’ve given up. It works. Can’t ask “who is this” because it’s not Amazon Prime music, but you can skip just fine. I don’t care about asking for individual songs, have my downstairs stereo for that. So happy, this is going to help with the quarantine in a HUGE way. Thank you PLEX and Amazon!
Update - if you hang in there and work with it, (using the PLEX/Alexa commands link helps at Alexa Voice Commands | Plex Support), you can figure out how to call up individual albums, artists, songs, etc. So, “Play the album Rubber Soul by The Beatles” would fire that up, etc. Not just Library Radio as I originally thought. You do have to go back into PLEX through Alexa to ask for something else, though. If you just try to, say, move to a different artist, album, or song, it will bring it up on Pandora or Amazon or Spotify, etc. So if you’re listening to something and wanted to listen to something else on PLEX, you have to say Alexa, Ask PLEX to play the album Revolver by The Beatles (etc.). That will keep you in PLEX. Not that hard, and there are errors I’m coming across, but Alexa seems to be improving with repeated efforts (or I’m learning how she expects you to ask). An error would be asking for something and Alexa plays something else. With practice I’m finding it’s more my fault than hers! It’s typical with women, it’s not what you ask for, it’s HOW you ask!
@dustiebin See my posts above - PLEX/Alexa now working with Amazon Echo Stereo Pairs and Echo Sub and really well(!)
Thanks for the tip, finally I can enjoy the sub! Weird that it works if you say “Alexa, PLEX” and then the command but not if I just say “Alexa ask plex to play XXX Playlist”
You’re very welcome @artkrime! Yeah, mess around with it. I think saying “Alexa, PLEX” the first time gets you into the Plex skill and uses the speaker set up. Other ways of asking open the Plex app on FireTV for me instead of the Echo sub/pair. The second time you can say, "Alexa, ASK Plex to play (…music by artist name or just artist name/album or song title, playlist etc.) and it will stay on the speakers. As a musician, I can even get it to play some personal music now, as opposed to known commercial material. So, for me, this has come from disappointment just a couple months ago, to downright excitement now. Have fun with it, I know I am!
Couple issues. PLEX will play one song on Library Radio and stop. Then I try to resume, and I can hear it trying to continue out of the left channel. But I’ve stopped it, so I have tell Alexa to stop, then ask again. Then it might play 4 or 5 in a row and stop again. Then just now, I stopped the system, and both Echo channels stopped but the sub kept playing, asking Alexa to stop did not nothing. Had to unplug and replug in the echo sub. Don’t know if anyone else is experiencing these issues with the Echo sub and Echo stereo pair configuration, but maybe someone else has an idea what could be going on? Maybe just need to kind of reboot these devices from time to time by unplugging and plugging back in? Seems like it’s a cache issue. I asked Alexa to resume and she said, “you don’t have any more songs in your play queue.” Before, it always just worked - “Alexa, Plex”. “Alexa, Play some music”, and Library Radio plays continually, or used to. Any help out there?
Haven’t played PLEX on Echo Sub/Echo Pair in a week. Today, only playing out of the right Echo speaker and no Echo sub again, or trying to play PLEX on FireTV. Rebooted everything several times. When this happened before it was just a handshake issue. Eventually it kicked back in. Still trying. Works fine with Spotify and Amazon Prime Unlimited, Pandora, etc., but PLEX only out of right speaker. Working fine before that. Will post again when hopefully soon it all comes back.
Pulling my hair out. Uninstalled and reinstalled Alexa PLEX skill, still right channel only. Just letting it play to see if starts handshaking for the 3 speaker system again. Disappointing to have something for months and just have it quit.
Same thing here. It’s weird that stereo works before but now it stops working with Plex. Hope they can fix that in the next update or sth.
Unfortunately it’s nothing to do with our skill. Amazon must have changed something on their end. My Echo Sub is no longer working with Plex for Alexa either.
