Music Playback Stopping

FML - I had 721 songs sync’ed and was having the pause bug. So I wanted to test with a smaller number of items. so i deleted them and now i have the “Waiting to download” bug (ie i can’t sync anything so I can no longer test)

Was your phone plugged in and charging?

Nope - made sure it was running on battery - I tend to only experience playback issues when away from the home and using synced content, when at home and on the wifi and chrome casting we haven’t noticed much off an issue - therefore I was testing as if I was away from home with no data or power!

Ok thanks, I am currently testing again sitting at my desk at work. So far its made it through two songs. But I don’t have a lot of confidence that it will continue, would be nice if it did.

Just cleared all my synced content to see if with the update would bring the missing artwork back and I’m downloading smoothly at the moment - only one album which was missing it’s cover (changed it on the PMS and it updated fine) and so far all artist information!

Manufacturer: Huawei
Device: angler
Model: Nexus 6P
Product: angler
Version: 7.1.2
App: 6.2.0.719 (29eaad8f)
Server: 1.7.4.4017

Playback stopped mid song again. The song started playing at: 06-28 09:25:55.317 and stopped fairly soon before 06-28 09:28:21.747 when I logged into the Plex app again to email logs.

Something new did happen this time though. I logged into the app to email the device logs to myself. And once I hit send in the GMAIL app the song started playing again on its own.

Come to think of it, I forced a stop on gmail and disable it yesterday as I don’t use it and google keep emailing naff news posts which keep popping up!

Ok, going to disable GMAIL and try this again!

Didn’t help, stopped playing halfway through the first song played.

As a side note, this phone was factory reset a couple weeks ago and not restored from backup. There is a minimal amount of apps installed, no facebook, twitter, snapchat, etc. Just core Android with Plex, Pocket Casts, and Gone Mad installed.

I can also recreate this issue on my wife’s Nexus 6P and our old Nexus 6 phones.

The music stopping still occurs even if I chose the use android music player advanced option.

I’m still getting random missing artwork too - everything shows when viewing the network version but set a album or artist to sync and 1 in 10, something goes missing; only way I have found to fixing it is to go into the PMS and play about swapping artist and album artwork, delete the synced version and then resyncing it until I find a combination which shows! #pain

At a complete lose to why it would show when view the network version but not the synced version!

going to put it down to sync being pretty broken…

Will re-test playback and see what happens!

I have never seen the artwork issue. But my music workflow is fairly involved, as I have long ago lost faith in anything but embedded ID tags for all my music.

All my music is first loaded into MusicBrainz Picard, the correct version is chosen then the tags are written to the files (FLAC in my case). Then I load the album up in MP3Tag and make sure nothing is missed. Then the files are moved into the Plex library location. This has given me with an almost 100% match accuracy in Plex, and zero art issues.

I originally thought this was a wifi connection issue, It happens on all devices, with all kinds of connections, and no synced content. I just want to stream from my home server while im at work, and cant anymore. I was hoping this morning App Update would help, and I almost go to the end of the first song, but then it just stopped, and it was back to the way its been over the last 2 weeks. I don’t have GMAIL on the device, or any other intrusive apps. This happens on iPhone 5 and 6, regardless of connection. As a previous post stated, this issue has rendered the app useless for music playback.

Are you seeing an issue with an Android device?

@“MovieFan.Plex”
Do you need more logs, either from server or device. I can get you logs all day long, as this is super easy for me to recreate.

I also use Mp3Tag to make sure the of metadata is spot before he gets loaded into plex and on the server side it’s pretty much 100% correct on - only get an issue when I sync the files to the phone, it randomly doesn’t show artist or album art but will show them on the network version. Only noticed it since moving to my new phone running android 7+.

On the upside, I’m on the 3rd album without any pauses or stops!

Trade you issues? I never see art issues, but synced music playback just doesn’t work.

What phone are you using?

@Tecco
No, just iPhone. I will try an Android and report back when I can verify.
Plex shuffle play works fine over a hard-wired web connection through a browser. I will check the wifi tonight to see if its different. Should we be hopeful this will be resolved? As good as Plex is for other media, it would really stink if I couldn’t use it for music.

Your best bet would be to make a post over in the IOS forum.

What phone are you using?

Sony Xperia X Compact with 32gb card for storage.

It’s only today I’ve experienced smooth playback on synced content and I’ve no idea why. As I mentioned, Sony pushed out a system update bring the device up to 7.1.1 and they focused on battery improvements which it has to said they have, gone from using over 50% in a day to max 25%.

Updated my PMS to the latest version and disable Gmail and I removed Plex from battery optimization. Everything else is as is…

Thanks for the feedback. I am really at a loss here, thinking its time to cut my losses and give up on Plex.

Thanks guys for the recent info. The issue going away while plugged in is a new twist. Can you check your phone’s settings to see if there are any power saving features enabled. See if disabling any of these help. Also, there is a power setting for WiFi that can turn it off when it’s not being used. I have mine set to always be on. I’ll try changing that and seeing if I can finally reproduce on my end.
