Same issue for me on Google Pixel XL Android 7.1. Playback stops occasionally while trying to listen to synced music. Going to the previous track and then this one again will start it over and it will play all the way through, so I don’t think its the file. I can provide logs if needed, but I’m guessing you have plenty from all the other people in this post.
Same issue, seems to stop with about 10-20 secs left in each song. On Nexus 6p 7.1.1 with synced music
Pixel XL
Client 5.2.0.477
Android Version 7.1
I’m also having this issue on Pixel XL and synced music. I know the files are good since I can play them using another music app without issue. I haven’t tried it streaming. Doesn’t happen on every song but I can’t get through an album without it stopping on at least once and I have to skip ahead to the next track to get it playing again. It does usually happen at near the end of the song.
It just happened again now (2100-2130) so I’ve attached the logs.
It’s been over 30 days since the last word from Plex; this has been an open issue for quite some time now. I’ve given up on Plex (finally) and have refunded my PlexPass subscription: why pay a company who is so averse to supporting its users?
That being said, if you’re looking for something (vastly) superior to Plex for music playback, I highly recommend Subsonic. I’ve been using it for about two months now and couldn’t be happier. I can choose how many songs to cache (caching, what a strange idea). Personally, I cache 1 song while on mobile data and unlimited songs while on WiFi (up to my 500MB cache limit). Subsonic also implements an imperfect version of gapless playback which involves you hearing maybe a pop/click or a small silence between songs, but that is infinitely better than Plex’s approach of: play to the end of a song, then start downloading the next song, which results in silences of up to 20 seconds in my experience (not exaggeration).
I’ve been very disappointed with Plex’s support model (if you can even call it that) over the few years I’ve used their service. I encourage others to seek out alternatives.
That being said, @MovieFan.Plex, there are other users seeking support on this thread. Do not consider this issue “closed” b/c I have given up. It floors me that there have been active posts on this thread that have gone unanswered.
I’ve all but given up using Plex for music streaming as well. Haven’t had any consistency using Android or iOS devices – both experience random stops in playback when streaming over cellular or WiFi. I have tried both plus and basic music libraries and experience the same playback problems with both.
Overall, Plex is fantastic for movies and TV, however, I’ve never had a great experience with music streaming since jumping onto the Plex train 2+ years ago. While I won’t move away from Plex entirely, I have also begun exploring alternatives for my music streaming needs. Given that there are few complaints about it, that could be an indicator that there is either an obscure “miss” within my environment or that music streaming just isn’t used all that often (and is mostly a second-class feature of the product).
Sorry I don’t have better news for you guys. So far there is nothing in the logs indicating what the problem could me. I had a couple of theories but none of them panned out. I’m also not able to reproduce the problem with music synced to my phone. I haven’t given up but tracking down the problem has been a challenge.
Hey @MovieFan.Plex – really do appreciate your looking into this. No doubt it’s a difficult problem to catch especially with all of the variables at play (networks, hardware, etc.). Cheers!
Same problem.
When I listen to my playslit, once a song is finished, waiting about 20 secs next one, “pause” status.
Sometimes next song will never start even with a wifi connexion.
It seems that plex download the full song, dont stream it progressively which could explain the start delay, can you confirm?
I didint notice it using windows application client.
Since the majority of the issues are phones on Nougat, I bet it has something to do with Doze on the go. I haven’t had much of a problem with this on my 6P running M.
Running android 6.0.1
I am having the same issue on my Nexus 6P with Android 7.1.1.
Ran a logcat when it happened
This line looks interesting: “NuPlayer: buffer low, pausing…” Should not be much buffering when it is a song synced to the device.
I did notice that it seems to only occur when running on battery.
I have the same problems on my 6p running 7.1.1. if on charger everything works great, but on battery the playback stops with the only way to resume being to skip or repeat the song.

Right after I posted it happened while I was on power. I am going to test fresh on power because I went from battery to power mid song when it happened the second time. I will run a full hour with it on power and see if it still happens, then run a full hour on battery and pull a log from each and post them.
I have now played 1.5 hrs of synced music from my Nexus 6P to my receiver via bluetooth while plugged into the PC and charging over USB, and the music did not pause once.
I repeated the same process with the same synced playlist only this time on battery only, within a couple of songs and after the phone went to sleep, the pausing was back. See logcat2.txt attached.
So it would appear that this is limited to only pausing while running on battery power (and after the phone sleeps), which leads me to believe that there may be some conflict with Plex and Android 7.1.x power management or DozeService like previously stated in this thread.
Additional testing:
I put the phone in a partial wakelock (screen off but CPU still running and not fully asleep) on battery only and the pausing still occurred (see PartialWakeLock.txt)
I put the phone in a full wakelock for one hour to keep the phone from sleeping at all while on battery and can confirm that keeping the phone from sleeping fixes the problem with pausing on battery. But is not good at all for battery consumption of course
Hopefully this info will give the Dev’s a good idea where to start looking for a fix. Might have to keep some sort of wakelock to prevent sleep from causing this. Hopefully without killing my battery too much
Thanks @the3dman for those logcats and your testing. I will forward this info to the devs.
I’m having the same issue, which is frustrating since syncing music to my phone was a big reason I purchased a Plex pass. @MovieFan.Plex Any updates on this issue? I’m on a Nexus 5x running N 7.1.1.
As above, I can confirm that it stops after about 3-5 minutes if on battery and screen is off. If on battery, and screen is set to stay on, then it plays until the screen turns off, and then plays for a couple of minutes. I can also confirm that the problem goes away if plugged into a power source. Finally, with battery saver on, then it stops about 10 seconds or so prior to the end of the song every single time.
Nexux 6p android 7.1.1 with plex beta app.
Sorry, no update yet. I don’t expect to hear anything until at least Tuesday, after the holidays.
Having the same issue:
Moto Z Force
Android 7.0
Plex 5.3.2.632
Good find @the3dman!
stopping sometimes occurs to me as well, amongst other things that are a bit getting on my nerves. (skipping a song out of nowhere. Randomly having a long time before the song starts)
I honestly think that the music part is probably the part where most love is needed in plex.
