So I was looking through the forums and noticed this has been an issue since 2017 the music player stopping while playing music on mobile devices when the phone locks or screen goes off. This is now 2021 and I wanted to know why this issue has not been fixed? Please don’t tell me that the company is just pocketing the money people are paying for this software. I paid for a Lifetime membership for Plex and not only does the music not work as intended on mobile devices but I constantly gets errors on the android TV app when going to the next movie or TV Show… What is our money going into cause it doesn’t seem to be going into development of this software or maybe you just have some employees that are incompetent to be software developers? Who is running that department down there? Why isn’t the management fired for letting bugged software to be released to the public?
Honestly, has anyone heard when this will be fixed?

I’ve been using Plex for free for Movies and TV Shows for almost a year, I think. Right now I’m experimenting with Music and Photo libraries because I prefer to have everything on one place instead of using Airsonic and Google Photos, for example. The extra features for the music and photos are things that make me consider getting a Plex Pass but not being able to play music on my phone is definitely a dealbreaker.
Has there ever been an official response to this issue?

I am having the same issue, playing from my own server on my own, it will.play maybe 2-3 tracks and then it will stop.

Having the same issue, for some time it worked but now it´s back to the same thing. A couple of tracks and then it stops
the same to me, doesn´t mind if i am at home connected to my network or mobile 4g connection.
6 minutes and music goes off, touch screen and get music again for at least 2 minutes, an then off again

Same problem here for months now. Noticed some other posts mentioning it stared with android version 8.12. So I downgraded by hand to 8.11 using the announcements thread and so far it’s been fine both on WiFi and Cellular. I can play entire albums all the way through. Whereas before music would stop after 2 or 3 tracks and would randomly stop and start if the screen was off. Waking the phone up was sometimes enough to smack the app back into life. Going back into the app from the notification bar would always resume playback.
Prior to rolling back to 8.11, I also played around with the battery optimization settings in the app for the current version (blocked Android from optimizing battery entirely) and that would help until the app was updated and it would clear that setting.
SOLVED!!! at least it works for me (Galaxy S9)
Go to Settings----->search for “battery optimization”--------> choose “all” -------> search PLEX app -----> unchek
now battery app will never stop plex and audio will be continuous

Thank you so much!!! I have been waiting years for a solution to this problem. I used to really like to listen to music with my phone, often with headphones. I stopped because of this problem. Finally, Plex works again!
By the way, the language is a bit different on my Note8. On it, look for “optimize battery usage.”
THANK YOU! Functioning properly on my Pixel 4XL again! All my CDs and digitised rare vinyl are in FLAC on my server and all my searches for a solution have suggested that FLAC via Plex may have been the problem. So happy it’s not. Can’t thank you enough!

The route for Pixel 5 (Android 11) is:
Settings / Apps and Notifications / Advanced / Special App Access / Battery Optimisation
Plex is not blocked by this on my galaxy 21 . I still have an issue, the app plays two songs and stops. Highly irritating.
